3 Rising tensions Between tejanos (texans of Mexican descent) and settlers American complaints: 1. Documents in Spanish 2. Slavery outlawed Tejano complaint: 1. Settlers not becoming Mexican citizens

4 The Alamo – Texans rebel
Texans took over a mission, the Alamo. Mexicans demanded Texans surrender. Texans outnumbered. ALL dead. Made Texans mad, call for revenge.

5 Texans win independence
“remember the Alamo” – Texans surprise attack on Mexican camp. Mexicans retreat out of Texas. Lone Star Republic Annex? Slavery issue – North = No South = yes After 10 years, Polk annexed Texas
