2 Private Health Care Facilities:
Health Care systems include many agencies, facilities, and people involved in the delivery of health care! According to the U.S. Government statistics, health care is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the US.

3 Hospitals! Are one of the major types of health care facilities!
They vary in size and types of service provided. Some are small, and serve the basic needs of a community; others are large, wide range including diagnosis, treatment, education, and research! Hospitals are also classified as private or proprietary (operated for profit) religious, nonprofit, or voluntary, and government, depending on the sources of the income of the hospital.

6 St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. (specialty hospital)
St. Jude is not a typical children’s hospital. St. Jude is first and foremost a hospital that provides unsurpassed care to children, but it is also a research center that specializes in finding cures for childhood catastrophic diseases. It is the largest childhood cancer research center in the world in terms of the number of patients enrolled and successfully treated on research protocols.

7 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
Which is a (specialty hospital) Provides care for only special conditions or age groups, St.Jude is basically for children. Mainly dealing with disorders or diseases, even cancer.

8 Dorothea Dix Hospital (Government Hospital) Raleigh NC.
Government hospitals operated by federal, state, and local government agencies. Include Veterans Administration hopsitals ( which provide care for vets,) State psychiatric hospitals & rehabilitation hospitals.

9 Dorothea Dix! Insane Hospital of North Carolina!
Born: April 4,1802- July 17,1887 On February 22, 1856, the first patient was admitted, and by the time of the Civil War there were 193 patients. In 1865, the Union Army occupied Raleigh and camped all over the city and on the asylum grounds. The first graduate nurse joined the staff in to teach student nurses and aides. The Dorothea Dix School of Nursing opened in and continued until the forties, when the student nurses began traveling to Morisania Hospital in New York City for their second year of education.

10 Long-Term Care Facilities!
Nursing homes: Designed to provide basic physical and emotional care to individuals who can no longer care for themselves. Providing a safe environment, mainly elderly people.

11 Extended Care Facilities or Skilled Care Facilities!
Rehabilitation Centers: Designed to provide skilled nursing care and rehabilitative care to prepare for patients. Or residents for return to home environments or other long-term facilities. [lady in rehab] -→

12 Medical Offices! Vary from offices that are privately owned by one doctor to large complexes that operate as corporations and employ many doctors and other health care professionals. Medical office in NC.

13 Dental Offices! Vary in size, some are privately owned by one or more dentists; some are dental clinics

14 Optical Centers! Individually owned by the ophthalmologist (eye doctor) Eye specialist. They provide vision examinations, prescribe glasses, or contact lenses.

15 Mental Health Facilities!
Treat patients with mental disorders and diseases. Guidance and counseling centers. Psychiatric clinics and hospitals. Chemical abuse treatment centers. Physical abuse treatment centers.
