Using your visual anticipation guide and the pictures around the room, answer the question in the second column for each picture:
What are citizens doing in the picture, and why do you think they are doing it?

2. Objective
PSWBAT identify the rights embedded in the first amendment of the Constitution of the United States and analyze which of these were used in the Occupy Wall Street movement by annotating an informational text.

12. Started in New York City’s with a few hundred protesters on September 17, 2011, the protests have grown in size over the last month, with more than 15,000 people camped out in NYC’s Liberty Plaza Park

13. It has grown over time and has even spread to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore.

14. And these protests are spreading all across the nation…
They’re now in more than 60 major U.S. cities and even in foreign nations!

We are going to highlight and annotate an article about Occupy Wall Street
I want you to pull out the movement’s goals, as well as the first amendment rights that the movement is using to reach its goals.

Occupy Wall Street is a diffuse group of activists who say they stand against corporate greed, social inequality and the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process. On Sept. 17, 2011, the group began a loosely organized protest in New York’s financial district, encamping in Zuccotti Park, a privately owned park open to the public in Lower Manhattan.
