1 General Safety Guidelines

2 Prepare for Lab Bring proper supplies
Uniform, apron, lab coat, non penatratable, closed toe shoes ANSI safety glasses Follow DAT uniform guidelines for hair, nails, jewelry, etc. Review the lab assignment prior to starting in the lab, so you can become familiar with what each step will require.

3 Report to the Instructor
Any type of injury, immediately. Broken or damaged equipment. If you see anyone violating a safety rule, so the student can be cautioned.

4 Avoid Accidents No food or drink should be out in the lab.
Chemical exposure, etc. Clean all spills immediately! Return all equipment and materials used to their proper space. Keep cabinets & drawers closed

5 Review procedures to follow in an E.R.:
Tornado Fire In building In lab- fire blanket Unauthorized person on campus Medical Emergency Hazardous spill Chemicals contacting eyes an/or skin

7 Equipment cords for deteriorating cords for frays

8 Equipment cords When equipment is not in use:
Cords should be disconnected, formed in a ring, and laid flat. Defective cords should be replaced immediately. Cords should be plugged in and removed correctly from the outlet correctly.

9 Electric and motorized equipment
Electric motors need air circulating through them to keep them cool. Motors should be kept clean & free of dust/lint for proper ventilation. Some equipment requires oil for proper functioning.

10 Lab Equipment Clean after each use and store properly
Only run the lathe on low speed Never use a dry grinding wheel Model trimmers must have a water source
