1 Responsible Use Policy (RUP)
Original authors: Margaret, Colin, Cyrus, Metin, Burcu, Erica and Sukran A document that: helps the RC community understand the expectations for technology use in school helps teachers guide students to be responsible digitial citizens is included in the Honor Code.

2 Sections of RUP Respect of Equipment – respecting hardware (computers / devices), software (updates, maintenance), damage Ethical Use of Technology – using appropriate communication, using the Internet responsibly Digital Citizenship – essential principles for 21st Century students

3 Two Versions: The long version – accessible on the Intranet in English and Turkish The short version – accessible in the Honor Code.

7 Be clear in your communication.
Expect a clear title to the message Expect a short message. Expect a properly labeled file EXPECTED FILE LABELING: ASSIGNMENT_STUDENTNAME_CLASSANDSECTION

8 Ideas to help you At the beginning of the year, introduce technology-related expectations to students and repeat them when necessary. Introduce the concept of putting laptops at 45 degrees – maybe develop a sign to indicate this. In your grading rubric or class policy, include points for complying with your expectations. For example – Students will lost 5pts if computer documents are not labeled properly.

9 Ideas continued… Contact counselors or colleagues when a student struggles to follow instructions/expectations. Create responses that you can copy and paste when expecations aren’t met: “Dear student, Your lacks the proper communication expectations outlined in the RUP and in my class policy.  Please re-send your and verify that you have  a) included a title, b) labeled your file properly and c) included a short message to let me know what the is about.”
