2 Collaboration can be done by Human Service Professional through a process of networking and referring which are directly linked with each other. Information on other agencies is gained by networking and based on this information professionals refer their client to another agency. 2

3  Referrals needs the interaction among the professionals through a network of human service.  A professional should know the appropriate timing, place and the medium of referring.  A professional should know the origin, services and objectives of other agencies to make the referral process successful.  Professionals refer their clients when they aren’t able to give appropriate help or lack in necessary resources such as skill or tools to help. 3

4  Networking means creating a database of information on other agencies using some techniques such as computer, notebook, blackberry or files.  Information should be required on different types of services they offer, their types of clients, payment and full contact information such as address, phone number, email address, official website or a person.  The medium of getting information can be co-workers, clients, seminar or workshop, Handbook, telephone guides and Internet. 4

5  Roles are important to ensure that professionals will work with in the predefined structures or boundaries in the field of human service.  The objectives of roles are to build necessary policies and services, to help clients in an effective manner and to ensure appropriate services. 5

6  Respite Counselor, Case Manager, team member of Crisis Treatment are some of different roles in human service sector.  Overlapping among these roles may be possible though they different.  To provide human services every professional has one’s unique skill.  If a professional is not able to help his client anymore he should refer the client to the team members to ensure the improvement of the client.  The general role is helping the clients and addressing the problems of clients and providing them a better life. 6

7  Chain of command is layers of authority within same agency.  The Professionals at top of this chain are responsible for controlling the resources and actions.  It is a hierarchical concept, each individual is responsible for those who are under their position.  The process of decision making is shared by all. 7

8  Chain of command is depicted by this chart  Solid lines are authority, flow of information and accountability.  Vertically connected lines describes departments or individuals whose working closely related to each other.  The boxes indicate different service and show staff that are responsible for providing those services. 8

9  Collaboration though networking allows social change as it helps to increase self- respect among the clients.  By networking human service professional become a proficient part of society. 9

10  There are two basic principles in economy. One is profit and another supply and demand.  Referring a client to another agency means they are given an additional mean or power to make profit. 10

11  Collaboration among the human service agencies through networking helps the client to improve their life and thus it leads to political change.  For instance, in case of the Ryla Wilson, in which laws were made to ensure a monthly visit of the children of care to be sure about their physical position in the home. 11
