1 Looking inside of the cell
Page 60-67 Green text book

2 Cell Wall Only found in plant cells
A plant cell wall helps to protect and support the cell. Purple lines are the cell wall

3 Cell membrane All cells have a cell membrane, the cell membrane controls what substances come into and out of the cell. Permeable like a screen door.

4 Nucleus #1 The cell’s control center, directs all cell activities. #1 on the picture of this cell

5 Nucleus continued The nucleus has three parts that make it up. They are: 1) Nuclear envelope-a membrane that surrounds the nucleus, things pass in and out of the nucleus through its pores. (Permeable) 2) Chromatin-this is where all the “knowledge” comes from, chromatin is our genetic makeup. 3) Nucleolus- this is where ribosome are made, Ribosome's are protein.

6 Diagram of the nucleus

7 Cytoplasm #11 This is the jelly like substance that holds all the organelles. It is found in the region between the cell membrane and the nucleus. #11 on model.

8 Mitochondria #9 Mitochondria are known as the “powerhouse” of the cell because they convert energy in food to energy the cells can use to carry out its function.

9 Endoplasmic reticulum #5
The ER passageways carry proteins and other materials from one part of the cell to another.

10 Ribosome's #3 Ribosome's function is to produce proteins for the cell. They are the little dots that cover the ER. They are also floating around in the cytoplasm.

11 Golgi Body #6 Golgi body receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the ER (endoplasmic reticulum) packages them, and distributes them to other parts of the cell.

12 Vacuoles #10 Vacuoles are the storage areas for the cells. I think of them as a vacuum it stores waste, food, and other items that the cell needs.

13 Lysosomes #12 Lysosomes are small round structures containing chemicals that break down certain materials in the cell. (clean up crew, Lysol wipes)

14 Chloroplast Chloroplast captures energy from the sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell. (PLANT) Chloroplast makes leaves green.

15 Levels of organization
In many celled organisms (ex: human), cells are often organized into tissue, organs, organ system, organism. Cell Tissue Organ Organ system
