1 Quality Accounts - Advancing the Quality Agenda

2 Background Since 2012 the Health Quality & Safety Commission has recommended that each Health and Disability service provider document and publish a yearly Quality Account. The primary purpose of the Quality Account is to encourage boards and leaders of healthcare organisations to assess quality across all of the healthcare services they offer, and encourage them to engage in the wider processes of continuous quality improvement. The third edition (2014/15) of the individual DHB’s has been published and we are here to share today.

3 Moving Forward More consumer focussed
Ensuring primary, secondary & tertiary engagement (DHB) Current critique focuses on the opening statements, performance reviews, future focus, readability....what else can we consider? Capital & Coast Opening statements The ‘average day’ info graphic sets out useful context. Performance review The six improvement initiatives discussed contain top-level details. The health target and QSM tables summarise DHB performance well but provide no information on priorities for next year. No patient stories are included. There is minimal discussion of CCDHB’s adverse events-related improvement work. Future focus The QA has no distinct future focus. Readability The text provided is written clearly and is understandable to the general reader.  The graphics are well-designed and user-friendly.  Comments We acknowledge the patient-focused nature of this QA, and it performs that task very well.  There’s probably a place for a fuller description of the DHB’s quality story though.
