METHODOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR PHASE 4 OF THE AFRICAN GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT INDEX 7-8 JUNE 2016 ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA

3 1. Objectives Introduce AGDI as a monitoring tool to workshop participants. Build the capacity of Phase 4 Countries to effectively carry out the AGDI. Build the capacity of ECA’s SROs and UNIDEP to effectively support Countries. Provide an opportunity for sharing of experience in implementing the AGDI. Develop awareness of the United Nations administrative and financial processes relevant to the AGDI.

4 2. Expected outcomes (1/2) Workshop participants have a common understanding of the AGDI methodology and processes, including: Objectives, structure and methodology of the AGDI. The roles and responsibilities of the the national gender machinery, AGDI national research team, national advisory panel, and National Consultant. The role of and the support provided to Countries by, ECA. Countries develop the capacity to effectively carry out the studies. ECA’s SROs and UNIDEP develop the capacity to effectively support AGDI Countries.

5 2. Expected outcomes (2/2) Countries are aware of the UN administrative and financial processes relevant to the AGDI. Countries develop a detailed plan to implement the AGDI. This plan would include: How Countries will go about compiling the GSI. The process for scoring the AWPS. Composition of the National Advisory Panel and Research Team. The roles and responsibilities of the national gender machinery, national statistics office, and National Consultant. A detailed work plan with associated budget.
