3 Louisiana Purchase After acquiring this huge new territory from France in 1803, President Jefferson wanted to know more about its people and resources Land stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains

4 Lewis and Clark Expedition
President Jefferson got Congress to pay for an expedition to explore the new Louisiana Territory. Jefferson chose Lewis, and Lewis chose Clark to help lead.
