The Hydroponic Bullfrogs

Project How does temperature affect the rate of photosynthesis? And, what is the ideal temperature to increase this process?

Hypothesis We believe that temperature plays a huge role talking about photosynthesis and it affects it as well. We think that the better temperature for a plant to photosynthesize is the ambient temperature, obviously depending on the plant. So, based on all this, we expect to have a lower rate of photosynthesis in room temperature and a higher rate of it than in our recording data for warm and cold water

Materials Beakers Syringe Swiss Chard leaf Hot plate Ice water
Baking soda (1.6 g/l) Heat lamp Leaf cutter Stopwatch

Procedure Fill 1 beaker with one liter of water Put the beaker at 5 °C
Add 1.6g/l of baking soda Punch out 3-5 holes in the Swiss Chard leaf Grab a syringe and fill it with water from the beaker Shake the syringe and make sure there is no air inside of it

Procedure (cont.) Put three of the leaf samples into the syringe and wait for them to sink Once the samples sink to the bottom of the syringe, transfer them back to the original beaker As soon as the leaves reach the bottom, start the stopwatch and record how long it takes the leaves to reach the surface again Repeat steps 4-8 with other two beakers 40 °C Room temperature

Data Water height 2.5 cm

Conclusion We believe that temperature plays a huge roll in photosynthesis. Our hypothesis was not supported we believed that photosynthesis would occur at a faster rate in cold and warm water than at room temperature. In truth, photosynthesis occurs at a faster rate in the warm water then at a medium rate in room temperature and it occurs slowest at a colder temperature So, the best temperature for photosynthesis to occur will be the hot water
