What do you need to know to correctly calculate a parcel’s final temperature? What is the temperature of the environment at this level? Will the parcel continue to rise or will it sink? Start at 370 m and lift 400m to 770m. Here environment temperature is about -12 degrees Celsius Parcel starts at -20 and decrease 10 degrees Celsius per KM, so 400m = 4 degrees Celsius = - 24 degrees C. So the parcel will be colder and sink back down towards the ground,. Inversion is very stable because parcel always cool, but environment temp will increase. Temp difference between envior and parcel increases with altitude.
