Clean Energy Ministerial C3E Initiative Overview: Women in Clean Energy Overview Ridah Sabouni, PMP, CEM, CMVP Energetics Incorporated Managing Director, Middle East & North Africa My objectives are to: -          Inform the audience what CEM is and what C3E (i.e., the four pillars of C3E) -          Let them know Energetics role in supporting the CEM Secretariat, especially on the C3E initiative -          Let the know the UAE’s involvement in C3E, through the two UAE Ambassadors (Eng. Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi and Meshayel Omran Lehssoni) -          Encourage them to self-organize locally, using the platform o   I will mention to them the C3E Meet-up Toolkit ( as an organizing tool

2 Clean Energy Ministerial
The Clean Energy Ministerial is a global forum to promote policies and share best practices to accelerate the global transition to clean energy. Emerged from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change conference of parties in Copenhagen in December 2009. Key roles ( - Bringing Together the World’s Key Clean Energy Market Leaders - Improving Policy and Expanding Deployment of Clean Energy Technologies - Distributing and Fostering Clean Energy Leadership around the World - Filling a Gap in the International Clean Energy Conversation - Engaging Key Private-Sector Partners

3 7th Clean Energy Ministerial, San Francisco, June 1-2, 2016
Energy ministers and high-level delegates from 23 countries and the European Union gathered to expand clean energy deployment and cut global carbon emissions while driving economic growth.

4 Clean Energy Ministerial
Consists of 24 participating CEM countries and the European Commission together account for about 75 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and 90 percent of global clean energy investment. They are the world’s leaders in clean energy research, development, and implementation C3E is an initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial

5 Women in Clean Energy (C3E)
Origins: Launched in 2010: participating governments include the United States (lead), United Arab Emirates, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Sweden, and the United Kingdom Overall Goals: Enable greater gender diversity in clean energy professions by attracting more women to clean energy careers, Support women’s advancement into leadership positions, Provide role models and advocates for women in clean energy, Connect women in clean energy from around the globe to share ideas and information. C3E was launched in 2010

6 Four Pillars of Women in Clean Energy (C3E)
SYMPOSIUM: C3E Women in Clean Energy Symposium is an annual event to bring together professional women, students, and partner government representatives. The Symposium was held at MIT; the 2016 Symposium was held at Stanford. AWARDS: The U.S. C3E Awards recognize mid-career women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and accomplishments in clean energy. Mid- Career and Lifetime Achievement Awards. AMBASSADORS: The C3E Ambassadors are a group of 47 distinguished senior professionals who advise C3E, represent the C3E initiative at public forums and work to strengthen the recruitment, retention, and advancement of highly qualified women in the energy field. The UAE C3E Ambassadors are: HE Fatima Al-Foora Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary, Electricity, Clean Energy, and Desalination of Water, UAE Ministry of Energy Meshayel Omran Lehssoni, Director, Clean Energy and Climate Change, UAE Ministry of Energy C3ENET ( C3Enet.org is an online community forum to connect and empower women working on clean energy to share information, insight, and inspiration.
