2 The 3 Primary Names of God

3 Jehovah Sabaoth Can also be titled Lord of hosts (Jehovah Sabaoth) (See Isaiah 6:5; 1 Sam 4:4) What do you think this title means? Represents the militant name of God “God of the Angels or Armies”

4 Jehovah Sabaoth Remember that He gives us a new name pointing to our relationship with Him: God’s service God’s warfare God has fought and will fight for Israel (David and Goliath, Revelation and Armageddon)

5 Jehovah Sabaoth Jehovah Sabaoth occurs 281 times in OT and denotes that the God of Israel used heavenly powers to come to their aid. One might interpret this title as “ the God of angels who fight for us” This denotes that He directs supernatural beings to come to our aid

6 Jehovah Sabaoth What are the functions of the angels?
Transport people into the presence of God. Read 2 Cor 5:8, Luke 16:22. Serve as guardians and protect us from physical harm. Read Ps 91:11-12. Their interventions in mankind have been documented in both the OT and NT, indicating their continued presence in our lives. What is your favorite angel story?

7 Jehovah Sabaoth How do angels come to our aid?
directly minister (Jesus in the desert) supernatural interventions confronting evil on our behalf ministers of His providence (Ezekial 10:8 and Hebrews 1:4-7, 14) Read Heb 13:2. Makes you think...... Read Matt 13:39. What is the role of angels in this text?

8 Jehovah Sabaoth This title never occurs in the first half of the OT and is mostly identified with Jeremiah and the destruction of Jerusalem and the minor prophets Why do you think Jehovah chose to be recogonized as Lord of the Hosts near the end of the OT? As the nation of Israel desired an earthly king, in reality they were rejecting their heavenly king (1 Sam 8:7). Israel placed faith in objects rather than Jehovah Sabaoth. Read 1 Sam 4:3-4 and 17:45.

9 Jehovah Sabaoth As the nation of Israel suffered military defeat, it called upon the militant name of God, one who leads the Heavenly Host. In our current struggle with false religions and terrorism, Jehovah Sabaoth should be a comfort to all Christians, especially those out on the front lines (such as the window)

10 Jehovah Sabaoth The LORD of Hosts has an army that: obeys
they carry out HIS will He directs their steps and actions worships HIM. Read Isa 6:3. destroys others at HIS will. Read Isa 10:

11 Jehovah Sabaoth Read Hag 2:4-11, 23. What does this tell us about the LORD of Hosts? He is with us capable of restoring the lost even in desperate circumstances has dominion over all wealth will provide peace through his might

12 Jehovah Sabaoth This same God wants to share blessings with his people and protect them from destruction and ruin. Read Mal 3:10. The term “devourer” as described above is another name for “eater” or as translated in the NT “satan”. Read 1 Peter 5:8. Jehovah Sabaoth will guard and protect you and me from attack.

13 Jehovah Saboath He is always asking us to: Prove by submitting to HIM
Prove Jehovah, not ourselves When? Now. Under every circumstance.

14 Application Imagine the strongest force you have experienced. Wars, hurricanes, etc. Now imagine the power of the One who created all of those forces. Jehovah brings heavenly power to aid us. Read Joshua 5: Some believe this was a Christophany. The power available to Jehovah (angels) cannot be measured. Read Matt 26:53, Hebrews 12:22.

15 Application Read Rev 5:11. John describes heaven as being filled with angels. There are specific ranks of angels to obey His commands (Gabriel, Michael, etc). Jehovah sometimes allows His people to be defeated. We should never assume that trials will not come (James 1:2). He allows judgement to occur as a process to bring His people to a redemptive state. We need to remember that we are not immune to his righteous wrath.

16 Application Read Josh 8:1-2. Why did he succeed?
Read Ruth 1:1-5 Why was she not defeated? Read Nehemiah 1:4-7. What position did he take with Jehovah after the defeat. Luke 22: Was he able to recover from this defeat?

17 Application Take a minute and list a number of areas of your life where you have been spiritually defeated. Did you allow yourself to be taken captive? Become disobedient Failed to seek daily instruction Failed to remember the last time the LORD of Hosts came to your aid.

18 Application Determine how you will trust Jehovah to fight on your behalf. Remember you have to allow him to fight your battles, you have to step back. Expect to see victory (eternal).
