1 What we will be learning this term…
Personal, Social and Emotional Development This half term we will be exploring the setting and making new friends. We will be learning the routines of the day and the Golden Rules which are the ethos of our school. The children will be given lots of opportunity to talk about themselves and the people that they love. We will also focus upon caring for living things, such as our Guinea pigs Bob and Brian and family pets such as dogs. We will engage in daily activities that will help us to develop social skills, as well as playing alongside peers in order to learn key skills such as sharing and turn-taking, creating a respectful and caring learning environment. Communication and Language:The nature of the nursery provides the children with endless opportunities for communication, with both peers and teachers. Our sensory week provides the children with the opportunity to explore and investigate many resources that will heighten their senses and increase opportunity for communication and draw out language. Literacy:Daily phonic lessons will focus upon the children’s listening skills and general sound discrimination. The children will develop awareness of environmental, instrumental and body percussion sounds through activitities such as listening walks. The nursery provides constant access to mark making both indoors and out, through a range of activities and provision. Physical development:The nursery provides a large range of opportunities outdoors for the children to move freely, the children can sing and dance on our stage, climb and swing on our climbing frames and learn to ride wheeled toys. We will all be taking part in a daily ‘physical burst’ where the children will join in with paint your body, wake up shake up, perform action songs and play ring games. To help develop our fine motor skills and pencil control we will be engaging in activities like finger gym, ‘squiggle whilst you wiggle’ and ‘dough disco’. We will also be helping the children to become more independent in their self-care such as using the toilet. Mathematics:The nursery provides continuous access to maths provision for the children to explore, with opportunities for children to begin learning to rote and touch count. We will also begin to learn shapes and colours in fun and engaging ways. Understanding of the World: In nursery we will be talking about ourselves and the people that we love. We will also be learning what our body parts are called and exploring our senses. There will be ICT opportunities for the children to explore, such as using laptops and electronic toys. Exploring Art and Design:The children are able to access creative activities both indoors and out, making cut and stick pictures and painting – beginning to learn how to mix paint to create different colours. Role play and small world activities are continuously available for children to use their imagination and gain confidence. Children can also access musical instruments and dressing up clothes daily. How can you contribute to your child’s learning? Look for WOW/Proud parent moments at home and add them to out parent as partners display in class. Share a story at night with your child Play games that will help with working as a team, sharing and taking turns.
