2 What should you do in an emergency?
Use the Emergency Action Model to learn how to respond in an emergency situation Back Forward Forward Exit

3 2h Land Based Rescue – Shout and Signal Assess the situation using the Emergency Action Model Gain the casualty’s attention by shouting and waving. Instruct casualty to kick their legs and move their arms. Encourage casualty to a point of safety and talk to them. Back Forward Exit

5 2h Land Based Rescue – Reach Assess the situation using the Emergency Action Model Gain casualty’s attention by shouting and waving Get down low to the ground and reach out to the casualty with a rescue aid Pull casualty to safety and monitor them Back Forward Forward Exit

7 2h Land Based Rescue – Rope Throw Assess the situation using the Emergency Action Model Gain attention of casualty by shouting and signalling to them. Locate a throwing rope. Coil the rope while encouraging the casualty to swim towards you Throw the rope underarm, get low to the ground and pull casualty to safety. Back Forward Forward Exit

9 2h Treatment of Shock A casualty with shock may be pale with cold, clammy skin; they may be thirsty, feel sick, may be sweating and feeling dizzy. To treat the casualty: Lay the casualty down, and raise their legs. Loosen clothing around the casualty’s neck. Keep the casualty warm and call 999 and ask for an ambulance.
