5 Goal: “We Know SHIPs” Facilitate networking
Refer SHIPs to each other when asked "Do you know who is doing [X]?" Newsletter articles promoting successes Identify SHIP presenters on key topics Expand SHIP-created items in Resource Library GP: The theme that guided this effort was “We Know SHIPs.” With increased knowledge about the different SHIP programs, we would be able to assist with the activities listed. Examples of how this has worked out: March and May SHIP Watch; List the sessions at the conference influenced by the project (SHIP/SMP sharing); April and June SHIP director orientations; Answers to questions (MOUs);

6 Data Sources 2016 Needs Assessment 2016 Interviews
2016 Resource Report # Medicare-eligible Funding Source Sources of Data 2016 SHIP Needs Assessment: Questions 3 - 6 in the 2016 Needs Assessment survey addressed the SHIPs operational model, subcontracting, and key programs the grantee agency is also responsible for, such as Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) grants, Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) grants, Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC), and the Long-Term Care Ombudsman program. 2016 Interviews:  Most SHIP directors agreed to interviews, with some directors also involving additional staff in the process. The interview questions explored the SHIP's operational model, subcontracting relationships, successful partnerships, outreach and education practices, counselor training, volunteer management, and grants management. These interviews were the basis for the narratives found in the Resource Library. 2016 SHIP NPR Resource Report: This was the source of the Quick Figures data, with the exception of the Medicare-eligible individuals in each state. Medicare-eligible individuals in each state: This data is available monthly from CMS. We selected the month of March 2016 to correspond to the month the 2016 Resource Report was due. Funding source: This data was from ACL's SHIP Program Evaluation unless the SHIP director provided more current information. Program contact information: This information mirrors what is published in our online SHIP location on the home page of  It is also provided through our SHIP contact list (available only to a SHIP director audience on our website).
