Cold War tension 1960s and 1970s - political initiatives launched by the leaders of France and Germany 1980s and the 1990s - the collapse of the communist system in Central and Eastern Europe the 2004 Orange Revolution in Ukraine The European Neighbourhood Policy initiated in 2007 by Germany with the support of the governments of Sweden and Poland.

4 Poland`s financial instruments for the Eastern Partnership
Development cooperation - conducted on the basis of a Multiannual Development Cooperation Programme This Programme includes the challenges facing Poland’s development cooperation system in the context of both global and regional changes. In the period development cooperation will be carried out in line with a new global development agenda adopted for during the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York in September 2015.

In 2016 three flagship initiatives will be implemented: The Eastern Partnership Academy of Public Administration (EPAPA) Information Centre for Local Authorities in Moldova Scholarship programmes provided via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education

Polish development cooperation in: Belarus will focus on supporting human capital, good governance, entrepreneurship and the private sector Georgia will focus on supporting good governance and human capital Moldova will focus on supporting good governance, agriculture and rural development Ukraine will focus on supporting good governance, human capital, entrepreneurship and the private sector

Belarus and Armenia joining the Kremlin’s Eurasian Economic Union The Association Agreements with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine signed by EU on 27 June 2014 Ukraine - the political part of the association agreement was not signed until March 2014, the second part of the agreement with the EU (free trade) was signed on 27 June 2014 On March 4, European Union member states ratified the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine (including Poland ). The remaining member states sought to ratify the association agreements with Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia before the Riga Summit which took place on 21 May 2015
