4 General Suggestions Creating a Power Point Presentation
80/20 Rule 80% of your time on content research/development 20% of your time on designing the PowerPoint 6 x 6 Rule No more than 6 bullets No more than 6 words per bullet 10/20/30 Rule 10 sides maximum 20 minutes or less 30 pt. text size minimum P.S. I broke almost all of these rules on this page!!! 

5 General Suggestions Creating a Power Point Presentation
“We have to bake the cake before we can frost it.” Plan and outline the content first Create a “black and white” version Add “bells and whistles” Contrast text and background Cite sources… Under images After quotes Works Cited on last slide for research Keep it simple Use subtle transitions Animate only to enhance the message Use no more that two fonts

7 Clip Art Click the Insert tab Choose Clip Art
type a keyword search… click Go Click one of the image It will be added to the current slide

8 Pictures Click the Insert tab Click the Picture button
Locate the picture you want to insert Click the Insert button

9 Charts Click the Insert tab Click the Chart button
Locate the chart you want to insert Click the OK button

10 Transitions Click on the Animations tab
Locate the transition that you want to use Click on that transition Click Apply To All to use this transition on all slides.

11 Animations Click on the Animations tab
Locate the transition that you want to use by clicking on the down arrow next to the Animate button. Click on the animation that you want Click on Custom Animation if you want to animate each slide differently.

12 Hyperlinks Type the website address… for example: www.np.k12.mn.us
After the address, press the Spacebar or Enter… the address will hyperlink TIP: You can also copy/paste an address from a website. In some cases, the address may be too long Highlight the text… right-click the highlighted area… choose Edit Hyperlink At the top of the pop-up window, highlight and delete the Text to display box Type the text you would like displayed on the slide… click the OK button

13 Video Highlight a word, phrase, or graphic.
Right click, and select Hyperlink Use the down arrow on the Look In box to find the video that you want to hyperlink. Select that file. Create a separate folder for your presentation and all video clips.

14 “Smart Art” Click the Insert tab… click the SmartArt button
Choose a SmartArt graphic… click the OK button On the right-side of the SmartArt frame… click the double arrow Type information on the bulleted outline to complete the SmartArt graphic Experiment with the Layouts and SmartArt Styles groups

Provide a focus for the students Stop to have students predict, summarize, visualize, make connections, evaluate, question, etc. Assess student learning
