Instructional Game Problem- Solving Program

3 Drill and Practice Students work example items, usually one at a time, and receive feedback on their accuracy. Types of drill and practice are sometimes distinguished by how how the programs are sometime distinguished by how the program tailors the practice session to student needs. Types of drill functions include: Flash Card Activity Chart Fill-In activities Branching drill Extensive feedback drills The benefits of drill and practice is to help learners master higher order skills more quickly and easily.

4 Tutorial Tutorial software is an entire instructional sequence on a topic similar to a teacher;s classroom instruction. This instruction is expected to be self contained instructional unit rather than a supplement to other instruction. Tutorials are categorized as linear or branching tutorials Linear tutorials- A linear tutorial gives the same instructional sequence of explanation, practice, and feedback to all learners regardless of differences in their performance. Branching tutorial- A branching tutorial directs learners along alternate paths depending on how they respond to questions and whether they show mastery of certain parts of the material. Tutorials are usually geared towards learners who can read fairly well and who are older students or adults.

5 Stimulation A stimulation is a computerized model of a real or imagined system that is designed to teach how the system works. Physical simulation- This simulation allow users to manipulate things or processes represented on the screen. Interactive Simulations- This stimulation speed up or slow down processes that usually happen either so slowly or so quickly that students cannot see the events unfold.

6 Instructional Game Instructional Games are software products that add game like rules and or competition to learning activities. Effective instructional games criteria: Appealing and appropriate formats and activities Instructional value Physical dexterity is responsible Social, societal and cultural considerations are addressed A classroom without elements of games and fun would be a dry barren landscape for students to transverse. Learning vs. Having Fun- some schools forbid any use of games because they believe games convince students that they are escaping from learning.

7 Problem Solving Program
Software that focus on students forming problem-solving skills to solve various types of problems. The three components of problem solving are: Recognition of goals Process Mental Activity Content-area problem-solving skills: software focuses on content-area skills – allows the students to create solutions to problematic scenarios Content-free problem-solving skills: software does not focus on specific content-areas – suggests to allow students to develop their own steps for solving problems
