5 AIMS OF THE STUDY The aim of this study was to assess the basic midwifery students’ knowledge and the rate of utilizing nursing process.

6 Methodology A descriptive research design was used in this quantitative study to reveal the knowledge level and the rate of utilizing nursing process. The total population was 145 and sample size of 80 was selected using simple percentages from each class i.e year one: 52 students (29 students were recruited) Year two : 48 students (26 students were recruited) Year three: 45 students (25 students were recruited)

7 Methodology Non replaceable Simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents from each class . Data was collected using self administered questionnaire. It has three sections: demographic variables, knowledge about nursing process and utilization of nursing process Pilot study was conducted in Baptist school of nursing and the reliability of the instrument was 0.75. Data analysis was done using only descriptive statistics

21 In conclusion All the students had adequate knowledge about the general concept of Nursing process, about 81% were not knowledgeable about the concept of NANDA, NIC and NOC while only 25% utilized nursing process appropriately. Therefore , midwife tutors should ensure that the knowledge of nursing process is transferred to the clinical practice and the clinical midwives should monitor the midwifery students in utilizing nursing process during the students posting.
