1 ATN Inv. 2.2b: Extending Subtraction to Rational Numbers
Come in and sit quietly. Learning Target: I will explore the Commutative Property & Absolute Value while representing differences of rational numbers. Homework: Solve the problems on THE BOTTOM HALF OF p. 11 of the packet for Investigation 2.2 DAY 4 and CORRECT with the EDpuzzle. Complete this Warm-up in your notebook: Give three examples of Additive Inverses: Possible answers: ‾ 1, ,000 = 0 ‾9.837 = 0 ‾ ⅜ + ⅜ = 0 Additive Inverses: Two numbers, when added together, equal 0.

2 Vocab Toolkit review:

3 Same signs Different signs Remember: “Don’t subtract… add the opposite” Change a subtraction expression to an addition by adding the opposite of the second number.

4 Remember: “Don’t subtract… add the opposite”

5 -10 – 5 -10 – 5 = = 15 = = 15

7 because you can’t change the order

10 In Math Fever, Jacob answered his first two questions incorrectly
In Math Fever, Jacob answered his first two questions incorrectly. The second question was worth 150 points. His current score is –450. What was the point value of his first question?
