Windows 10 FOR EDUCATION Take a Test app Set up School PCs app
Built for creators, makers and 21st Century teachers Windows Updates Intune for Education* Inking built for thinking Simplify the delivery of formative assessments in class Deliver high stakes testing more easily Setup digital assessments ahead of time or on-the-go Simplified device setup app for shared cart scenarios Shared Windows device optimization Students log into a shared device quickly, receiving their personalized experience Windows 10 and STEM give makers an approachable platform for learning, tinkering, building, and exploring. Paint 3D in Windows 10, helps students unleash their imagination and start creating in every dimension. Active hours settings schedule updates to install outside of class times SetEDURestart applied through policy or the Set up School PCs app helps devices wake while sitting in a cart overnight Simple user experience for school Bring devices under management simply by joining AAD during deployment Apps and settings applied to each enrolled device by default integrated with Microsoft Store for Education Ink workspace helps students know what a digital pen can do when they bring it close to the screen Use writing and touch simultaneously to adjust the thickness of a digital brush or use a built-in ruler to make razor-straight lines HIDE SLIDE OR MOVE LATER IN DECK DEPENDING ON YOUR PRESENTATION NEEDS Note: some features on this page are targeted for delivery in the next update to Windows, subject to change. Many of the features on these slides were first introduced with Windows 10 Anniversary Update and have improvements coming in the Windows 10 Creators Update. Details follow. Updated functionality coming in next update to Windows: The Take a Test app is a new app available for the first time with Anniversary Update that provides for lock down used for secure, online assessments, such as exams. The app creates a browser-based, "locked-down" environment that doesn't allow test takers to access resources, such as files, stored on their device or the internet; it prevents OS-level distractions, such as "toast" notifications; and it doesn't allow test-takers to share test content with other students. See the Take a Test slide for added Creators Update detail. Set up school PCs app (new with Anniversary Update): The Set up school PCs app provides a very defined, simple and straightforward work flow for setting shared cart devices up in schools. The app is available in the Windows Store for free download by teachers or IT. Once downloaded, in as few as 3 steps the user can create a set of polices to be deployed via USB to set Windows up for shared user log ins. See the Windows works just as great for 100 user as for 1 slide for added Creators Update detail. Policies are applied to devices via USB during the OOBE experience. For example, a teacher could purchase 10 Windows PCs. Unbox them, plug them in, turn on, and simply move from device to device with the provisioning USB setting them up for use in the class adding the appropriate AAD log in at the right time. Once the policies are applied, the devices will be ready for students to log in the first time. Windows can update outside of class times, every time Schools can use Group Policy or MDM to set updates to install and reboot outside of active hours broadly across their devices, or per devices through the PC Settings. Inking built for thinking: Ink workspace. Now, users always know what a pen can do when they bring the pen close to the screen or tap a button on the pen. Fast action. Quickly capture notes and turn ideas into action with Windows Ink. Instantly create easy-to-manage checklists, write down reminders that will show up across your devices, and jot down a flight number to immediately bright up the status of the flight. It’s also quick and easy to bring up space (like sticky notes to drawing pads) for your pen to work – you don’t even need to log in to start inking. Pen and touch power. Create with amazing speed when you combine pen and touch working together. Use natural two-handed coordination when working with drawings, like adjusting the thickness of a line or bringing up a digital ruler so you can trace along the straight edge, just like on paper. Awesome with Office. Inking is extra awesome with Office apps. You can pen edits and add notes to Word docs as easily as marking up a hard copy. When you’re working with others, Windows can record the notations from colleagues, allowing you to replay the step-by-step sequence in their thought process, including math calculations, for better understanding and collaboration. Wondering what we added in the previous update (November)? Details below. Enhancements to Azure AD Join User state roaming that takes advantage of Azure AD to enable user’s apps, settings and data to “follow” user on any corporate Windows 10 device by syncing these via Azure cloud Windows Store for Business -companies can acquire (free) apps from Windows Store and manage and distribute them centrally, based on their corporate ID. (Support for paid apps is coming later). Additionally companies can create private catalog view in the Store for their users - such catalog would include their internal company LOB apps plus chosen Windows Store apps. Windows Update for business - Ability for It to create “distribution rings” phasing updates for different user groups is being delivered in November. (while the ability to defer updates and take advantage of peer-to-peer caching to save network bandwidth during updates was available in the product since this summer). MDM Support For BYOD We had MDM capabilities enabled in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise as of this summer. In November we are adding most of these MDM capabilities to Windows 10 Home so that we enable BYOD scenarios. We also deliver additional set of controls so that companies can fully switch off telemetry via GP/ MDM tools, if they wish to do so. Lastly, we continue to deliver improvements to user experience; based on feedback from millions of our customers in the Windows Insider Preview program Microsoft Edge offers improved performance and security, along with tab previews, which allows you to hover over your open tabs and get a preview of what’s on those websites without leaving the page you’re on. Microsoft Edge syncs your Favorites and Reading list items across devices so you can easily get back to the content you’re interested in most. *Intune for Education sold separately 6

Overview of deployment options
MS Story 9/11/ :44 AM Unmatched flexibility and control, depending on needs Windows Insider Preview Branch Current Branch Current Branch for Business Long Term Servicing Branch Specific feature and performance feedback Application compatibility validation Deploy to appropriate audiences Test and prepare for broad deployment Information workers General population Specialized systems Early adopters, initial pilots, IT devices Deploy for mission critical systems No need for frequent new features (or any sort of change) Too expensive for general population Benefits from new features Begins broad deployment Microsoft designed Windows 10 to provide businesses with multiple servicing options, centered on enabling different rates of feature upgrade adoption. The process starts with Windows Insiders, a community comprised of millions of users around the world. When Windows Insiders opt in to the community, they test many builds over the course of a product cycle, and provide feedback to Microsoft. Once we’ve completed the new features and are satisfied with the overall quality of the release, we’ll then release it more broadly. We recommend that all organizations have a small number of test PCs participating in the Windows Insider program, for a couple of reasons: Certainly we want customers to try out new features and provide feedback on those. But we also want to make sure that their apps continue to work – out goal is to have as close to perfect compatibility as possible. Once we have completed the development process, we’ll release the new feature update. At this point, we consider this to be a “Current Branch” (CB) release of Windows 10 – great for validation through initial pilot deployments to perhaps 10% of the devices in the organization. [ Ideally those 10% of PCs would cover a wide variety of workers, so that 80-90% of apps are validated just by those people doing their normal jobs. ] After a period of about four months, this “Current Branch” release will be declared as a “Current Branch for Business” (CBB) release. This signifies that this Windows 10 feature update is ready for broad deployment throughout the organization. This declaration is made based on the feedback from OEMs, ISVs, and organizations. We would expect about 80% of the PCs within an organization once CBB has been declared. That leaves one other category of devices: Specialized systems that must remain unchanged for long periods of time. These are often used for things like ATM machines, operating factory floor equipment, controlling medical equipment, and other special uses. The number of PCs that falls into this category varies by industry and organization, but on average we would expect 10-20% of PCs could fall into this category. We release a “Long Term Servicing Branch” (LTSB) release of Windows 10 specifically to support these devices. This LTSB release is supported for 10 years with no new features. [ As a general guideline, if the PC requires Office, it’s probably not a special-purpose device. These types of devices should use CBB. ] Current Branch for Business is supported in Pro, Enterprise and Education Editions. Long Term Servicing Branch is available only for Enterprise Edition. Now that Windows is delivered as a service and you automatically get new upgrades, you may question why you still need Software Assurance. Let’s take a look at a side-by-side comparison of what’s included in the 3 different commercial versions of Windows 10 Enterprise. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 provides access to advanced enterprise security and management features, however, it only offers the Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB) servicing option. This edition does not provide the flexibility of the Enterprise Edition Current Branch or Current Branch for Business servicing options. It also does not provide access to the enhanced controls, use rights, support and training included with Software Assurance. Windows 10 Enterprise E3 includes all of the advanced security and management features found in enterprise edition, as well as Software Assurance, which provides you with: Comprehensive management capabilities and controls MDOP is a set of products to help with virtualization, management and restore capabilities. MDOP is now only included as an SA benefit, and is no longer a separate add-on. Virtualize: Microsoft App-V: Microsoft App-V makes it easier for IT departments to deploy across a fleet of devices by allowing “anywhere access” to virtualized applications on any authorized PC with management improvements, streamlined deployment of virtualized Office, and performance updates. Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) provides an enterprise-scalable user state virtualization solution that delivers a personal Windows experience, is easy for you to deploy, and integrates into your existing infrastructure. Manage: MBAM: Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) provides enterprise management capabilities for BitLocker and BitLocker To Go. MBAM simplifies deployment and key recovery, provides centralized compliance monitoring and reporting, and minimizes the costs associated with provisioning and supporting encrypted drives. Restore: Microsoft DaRT: DaRT 10 provides diagnostics tools, remove control capabilities, repair tools, and other useful utilities for diagnosing and repairing Windows systems. Flexibility and foundational benefits SA benefits also provide greater flexibility for how you use Windows. The E3 and E5 plans provide exclusive access to the Enterprise Edition Current Branch/Current Branch for Business. Enhanced training and support Finally, SA benefits include the core Readiness and Support Resources to allow you to better plan, deploy, and manage Windows through things like, 24x7 Support, Extended Hotfix Support, and end user and IT training through E-Learning and Training Vouchers. Windows 10 Enterprise E5 includes everything found in E3, with the addition of Windows Defender ATP, which, as we’ve already discussed, provides an additional layer of post-breach protection to the Windows 10 security stack, allowing you to detect, investigate, and respond to advanced attacks on your network. 1. Representative list, for a full placemat of features across editions please visit the Windows.com website; Education editions also deliver education-specific default settings; 2. If you drop SA, you still retain rights to the current LTSB, but you lose rights to future LTSBs
