Introduction. CREATIONS Participatory Activities status. The CREATIONS Community statistics Satisfaction of relevant Project Indicators. Conclusions on WP4 status. Goals for WP4 up to M36. Further ideas for effective community building.

3 Role of WP4 in the CREATIONS project

4 The main role of this work package is to create and progressively build virtual communities of teachers, students, artists and researchers and involve them in the implementation of the CREATIONS Demonstrators created in the framework of WP3. To achieve that, WP4 has: Analysed the User Needs Adopted the Needs and Generated Creative Options Designed Participatory Engagement Activities Provided a community support Environment

9 Practice Reflection Workshops Outcomes
The students were very pleased and proud of their involvement in CREATIONS activities and learned a methodology which they can use in the future. The CREATIONS approach provided room for all kinds and needs of students. Students, irrespective to race, age or academic prowess, were able to get in the shoes of a scientist and collaborate in order to achieve common goals. Demonstrators that utilized ICT technologies and collaboration with other schools seemed to provoke students’ interest.

10 Practice Reflection Workshops Outcomes
The students were able to master difficult academic content through the CREATIONS approach. More than 90% of the engaged teachers consider as useful the time invested to engage with CREATIONS, while 70% of the teachers consider that they will be able to integrate tools like CREATIONS in their classroom practice within the next ten years. The teachers expressed their difficulty in terms of the required time against their available time during the implementation.

11 Practice Reflection Workshops Outcomes
More than 50% of the teachers consider it rather easy to adapt the preparation for CREATIONS within their out of school preparation for next day’s lesson. More than 60% of the teachers consider it difficult to adapt the CREATIONS approach in the school lessons’ timescale.  In many cases, teachers who were not involved in the implementation of a demonstrator in their school, expressed their interest for the project. The participant teachers consider positive the idea of involving more colleagues of other disciplines in the CREATIONS implementations. This way, the multidisciplinary character of a demonstrator can be highlighted and more time for a CREATIONS implementation will be available

12 Practice Reflection Workshops Outcomes
Teachers pointed out that demonstrators which cover extracurricular content, such as High Energy physics or Astrophysics etc., provided them with challenge but also conceptual difficulty regarding the subject matter. They agreed that the timely provision of supporting educational material and expert support is crucial regarding their self- confidence in addressing these topics. In many cases, the parents and the local community were very supportive on the project. For further information, please consult D4.5

13 Participatory activities from M25 to M36
During the Summative Workshops period, M25-M33, teachers who carried out long term implementations and participated in the visionary and practice reflection workshops will recapitulate on their CREATIONS experiences and lessons.  Relevant forms and guidelines will be uploaded at the CREATIONS online community for partners.  While new demonstrators emerge, new visionary workshops and practice reflection workshops will emerge. Please, take some time to document these workshops in the relevant forms along with the feedback from the associated teachers.

14 Participatory activities from M25 to M36
During this period, it is expected that more demonstrators will be finalized or developed by the partners and the associated teachers and therefore it is expected that the community building activity will also be increased.

15 The CREATIONS Community
CREATIONS Community hosts educational material and links to all the CREATIONS subcommunities supporting the CREATIONS Demonstrators

16 CREATIONS ONLINE COMMUNITIES’ PERFORMANCE
Progress has been made in terms of Community building especially by partners from Spain, Norway, Greece and UK.  Other partners despite their dissemination of relative activities they produce through other means still remain inactive. Corresponding activity in the CREATIONS portal is yet to be seen.

17 CREATIONS ONLINE COMMUNITIES’ PERFORMANCE
The WP4 Leaders have distributed video guidelines and want to stress out their availability and commitment in facilitating the successful community building in the framework of CREATIONS. Please update regularly your communities with material and users. To increase the visibility of your work and broaden the access to more users internationally, you can utilize the CREATIONS portal news by creating events in your community.

19 Community Statistics vs time

20 Engaged (Unique) Users vs time

21 Comments The month indicator in each plot counts the last day of each month. During the summer period the slope of the unique users decreased. This needs to be addressed. For every community we have >1 resource per 2 registered users on average. The portal indicators: Nr. of communities, Nr. Of Unique Users, Nr. of registered users, Nr. Of resources present a slowly increasing trend. The Nr of unique users are 3560 and if the same effort is paid on engaging them, it is presumed that the project indicator of 5000 engaged users will be surpassed by M28-29 reaching more than 7000 by M36 (end of the project). Please update regularly your communities with material and users. To increase the visibility of your work and broaden the access to more users internationally, you can utilize the CREATIONS poral news by creating events in your community.

23 CONCLUSIONS on WP4 Status

24 The comments of the teachers participating in practice reflection workshops have proven that they are more than willing to accept the challenge and adopt the CREATIONS approach in schools. The fact that more than 60% of the teachers who took part in the CREATIONS participatory activities consider it difficult to integrate the CREATIONS approach within their school hours should be taken into account in the design of the new demonstrators. CREATIONS offers a multidisciplinary approach which is difficult to be integrated within the school curriculum. A more holistic approach is mandatory in order the educational community to reap the benefits of the CREATIONS approach.

25 In the Period M1-M15, 20 demonstrators (20% of the total by the end of the project) have been created supported by 42 online communities with 800 unique users, 467 registered members and 357 resources with more than 500 teachers being involved in workshops and participatory activities. Now, entering M25, further demonstrators are or have been created (up to 33 more), with 67 online communities visited by unique 3560 users, with 875 registered members and 580 resources with more than 850 teachers being involved in workshops and participatory activities. For the time being only 20 different demonstrators have been uploaded in CREATIONS Community. It’s crucial when these new demonstrators will be finalized to upload them, form communities around them and attract new teachers to register through implementation and dissemination activities.

26 The progress made so far indicates that from the WP4 perspective, the desired goals relating to the project indicators will be achieved by the end of the project, however we should stay alerted and continue our effort persistently, since we are entering the last year of the project and there is no much space for second chances.

27 Goals for WP4 up to M36 According to the WP4 relevant project indicators, we need to focus on completing succesfully the online participatory activities. The main focus is the completion of the Summative Workshops and their documentation. Partners who are creating and implementing new demonstrators, are kindly encouraged to document their visionary and practice reflection workshops including teacher feedback in their reports. Considering the Portal Activity the overal picture so far is not negative. However, the community building activity needs to be enhanced further by ALL partners, as, so far a huge anisotropy is prevalent. We need to start considering our strategy for the 2018 CREATIONS summerschool in order to maximize participation.

28 Further ideas for effective community building.
To achieve efficient community building we need to maximize teachers' involvement and thus ensure the sustainability of the project.  We need teachers coming from different countries and implementing different demonstrators to be able to exchange good practices and ideas among them. Furthermore, it would be optimal if the teachers could be in touch with researchers, artists and CREATIONS specialists around the world in order to orient themselves better and brainstorm new ideas.

29 Further ideas for effective community building.
In this framework, we could organize a monthly CREATIONS teachers' day through online hangouts and perhaps hold a forum for further discussion through the facilities of the ODS portal. Further ideas would be most appreciated.
