2 Introduction: Mid-twentieth century, the first transoceanic trips to emigrate to Latin America. Throughout the nineteenth century until the Depression of the 30s of the twentieth century → More than 60 million Europeans emigrated to America.

3 Causes of the emigration:
Industrialization - increase of salaries - transport fees suppression Forces of demographic transition Structural change caused by commercialized agriculture

4 Causes II: Modernization of financial system
The internationalization of the market The two World Wars + Civil Spanish War

5 Destinations: USA → 55% Brasil → 20% Argentina → 10% Percentatges!

6 Destinations II: Venezuela → 10% Canada → 3% Australia → 1% (1% Other)

7 Why to America? NORTH AMERICA:
Beginnings of industrialization→ North America (practically depopulated continent) Many opportunities for investment and labor → Northern and central Europe for the industrialization process.

8 Why to America? SOUTH AMERICA:
End of the century → South America part of the trade international system → export of agricultural products Expansion and attraction for the population of southern Europe → at that time began the process of modernization Economic

9 Consequences: European economic and agrarian crisis due to lack of people. Social and political rupture. Renovation and modernization of means of transport and communication. Establishment of new companies in the American colonies.
