5 I. Meditate on God’s word day and night.

6 How often does one have to eat to maintain health and strength ?

7 Just reading the word is of little more value than reading the menu.

8 Make it part of your thought process.
Deuteronomy 11: 18 You shall therefore impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

9 Jeremiah 15: 16 Your words were found and I ate them, And Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

10 I Timothy 4: 13 Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. Colossians 4: 13 When this letter is read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and you, for your part read my letter that is coming from Laodicea.

11 Ezekiel 3: 10 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, take into your heart all My words which I will speak to you and listen closely.” I Peter 2: 2 Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

12 Christians digest the word like cows digest grass.

13 Luke 2: 19 – But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
Psalms 119: 11 – Your word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against You. James 1: 21 – Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. ( cf - I Pet. 1: 22 )

14 “God did not give us the bible to tell us what happened in the past but to equip us to live in the present in light of the future.” - D.L Moody

15 The word must be laid up on our hearts.
1. Commit the word to our active memory. 2. Think about those verses during the day and in your quiet time each evening. 3. Ask yourself questions about the text. 4. Study the text that you are contemplating. 5. Season the whole process with prayer.

16 Meditation is not optional.
Joshua 1: 8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

17 Colossians 3: 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things that are on earth. Psalms 104: 34 Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the Lord.

18 II. Obey all that is in God’s word.

19 Joshua 1: 8 – … but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; … Luke 6: 46 – Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? John 14: 15 – If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

20 We seek knowledge and discernment in order to be able to obey God.
Psalms 119: 15-17 I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. 16 I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word. 17 Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.

21 Philippians 1: 9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

22 III. Never let God’s word depart from your mouth.

23 God requires that His followers advocate for Him in the world.
Joshua 1: 8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night,

24 You have a purpose in life !
I Peter 2: 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood , a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; You have a purpose in life !

25 God has no other way to get the gospel of salvation into the world. You are His only plan.

26 IV. Trust God to care for you.

27 Joshua 1: 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

28 Matthew 28: 19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

29 I Peter 3: 14-15 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, you are blessed. And do not fear their intimidation, and do not be troubled, 15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.

30 I Corinthians 16: 13 Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Matthew 6: 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

31 Our text has given us four keys to spiritual success.
1. Meditate on God’s word day and night. 2. Do all that is written in the scriptures. 3. God’s word must always be on our lips. 4. Trust God to take care of us.

32 Philippians 1: 9-11 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; 11 having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

33 When people see true peace and trust, they want it.
May they see it in you.

34 Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it may be your destiny.
