1 BYOD for Libraries Library Apps
FE Technologies today are launching a new library app solution developed by Boopsie from the USA with whom we have partnered

2 Why is 90% of Users’ Mobile Device Time Spent “in Apps”?
Faster, better experience than a mobile browser Access to more features and capabilities Push notification capabilities By end of 2016, mobile device users will spend 3 hours 15 minutes per day using apps. Source: eMarketer Jan 14, Mobile-Apps-Stack-Up-Against-Mobile-Browsers/ A native app is an app downloaded off the app stores, like Apple and Android. A mobile website is viewed through a web browser, like Safari or Chrome. Using a URL in the browser 11% of a day is spent on mobile media – amazing though during that time ony 6% is spent on safari and only 4% of the time on chrome – the 90% is spent in actual apps. So even if a library has a responsive website - users are not using it *

3 Australian Context 79% of Australian have smartphones – Deliotte Touche Tohamtsu 15.3 smartphones in Australia – Yump 11.2m Tablets in Australia - Yump Australia has a much higher penetration of smartphones than the USA 79% of Australians have smart phones with over 15.3million smart phones out in the market and 11.2 million tablets

4 Digital Resource Usage Increases by 35%+
Boopsie has seen an increase of digital resource usage. On average there is a 35% increase with libraries that use their app Increases in Digital resource borrowing obviously vary from library to library Patrons can easily find a way to search, rather than trying to search the search tool Boopsie enhances the user experience by using an intuitive and simple search tool Most users don’t go more than 2 or three clicks or in app world they say 2 or three taps – the Boopsie app makes that search as useful as possible

5 Branding: Your Library’s Logo & Colors
Example shows different icons for different libraries and if your library is to have an application icon it should represent your brand Application icon is included in the implementation fee

6 Feature: Catalog Search / LMS Integration
Full MARC Extract Smart Prefix Search My Account Bottom Navigation Search Bar Top 20 Popular Titles Catalogue search and LMS integration Looking for full marc extract – the app does a number of things with the marc extract Do smart prefix search from the search line that automatically brings in results immediately, whether you spell it correctly or use a short name Also links into your account to see what books you have checked out and what you have on hold – also can keep a copy of your barcode library card in your account - doing away with the need to carry a separate library card Allows links to bottom navigation search bar Has top 20 popular titles – this filtered against the collection so you don’t have books that are not in your library shown

7 Feature: OverDrive Embedded Reader
Here is the overdrive embedded reader – Boopsie deals with overdrive in two different ways They can search a title and be reading it in three taps which is a great improvement from the old days when it took some 27 clicks to achieve this You can do the same with an audio book The embedded reader needs to be connected in some way as the actual books is read via streaming using data or wifi as the book is not downloaded As we said Boopsie can handle Overdive in a number of ways - the other option is to go app to app. This means that they need to have the overdrive app loaded on their device then can then download the book and read it on a plane Boopsie is working with overdrive to download the content in the embedded experience – coming soon

8 Feature: Unified My Account
Login will be replayed on each linked account Patron can logout and use some other credentials if desired, mix and match This technology "remembers" and auto logs patrons in when they tap on a particular resource Currently supports: Library card account (ILS) OverDrive OneClick Digital 3M Cloud Library Axis 360 readingpa.boopsie.com Within the account it allows for a single sign on experience so that when the user only logs into account with number and barcode and the system remembers it so that don’t have to re-engage to reserve a book and check out an e-book or audio book Supports a seamless experience

9 Feature: Virtual Library Card
There is a victual library card meaning you don’t have to carry your card FE Technologies self loan stations use CCD barcode scanners which can already read barcodes off phones

10 Feature: Barcode Wallet
Store and quickly access Virtual Library Cards for your entire family    The system also allows for a patron to keep copies of family members cards

11 Feature: Events Calendar
The system can integrates with event software –– can link via ical or RSS feed 56% of Americans use their phone at least occasionally to learn about community events or activities, with 18% doing this frequently

12 Feature: BookLook / BookCheck
Book look allows a patron to scan an ISBN number and see if the library owns that title. There is a book check which allows a patron to check out a book by scanning a barcode – Wont steal the developers thunder who will later show you how FE Technologies have embraced this solution to work with RFID security seamlessly

13 Feature: Multilingual Functionality
Choice of 45 languages – only translates the app prompts and does not translate the content coming from the LMS

14 Feature: Modifiable Top Banner
Library Managed Provide updates to app users about special hours, new content, and other important library information. This is a library managed top banner and can be used for communication and is easily modified by the library

15 Feature: Push Notifications
Library Wide Notifications: Instantly notify app users about important updates, special hours, new content, and other important library information. Schedule these notifications in advance. The app can push notifications on a library wide basis – Can be modified easily by the library and also scheduled in advance
