1 EClass/Centra: The Basics

2 About EClass/Centra Centra is a system that uses audio/video to facilitate communication between users. Scheduled meetings on EClass allow people to communicate at the same time.

3 Go to http://eclass.msc.uky.edu
Log In Go to Enter Login and Password

4 Log In Videos To watch a tutorial video on logging in, click here
To watch a tutorial video on entering a meeting without being logged in, click here

5 Click “My Schedule” link A list of your scheduled meetings will appear
Check Your Schedule Click “My Schedule” link A list of your scheduled meetings will appear Note: If you want your schedule as your homepage, click the “My Profile” link. There is a preference section where you can make your schedule your homepage.

6 Go to “Public Events” link Search for desired meeting
Find A Meeting Go to “Public Events” link Search for desired meeting Click on “Attend” link To watch a tutorial video about attending an ongoing meeting, click here -You can search for a meeting by using the event ID, name, description, or leader’s last name.

7 Use the Video Wizard (if necessary)
Test Your Equipment Use the Audio Wizard Use the Video Wizard (if necessary) -To use the Audio Wizard: Click the Audio button at the top of your screen (it has a headset on it) Select your equipment (the headset is most recommended) and press next Adjust the speaker volume and press next Adjust the microphone volume and press finish -Some meetings require participants to use video feed. If this applies to your meeting, test your video by using the Video Wizard. -To use the Video Wizard: Go to the Tools menu Scroll down to Video Click on the Video Wizard Select your video source and press next Make sure the video is focused (adjust it if necessary) and press finish

8 Once You Are In A Meeting
Your display name will appear in the participants section Meetings use verbal and nonverbal communication

9 Verbal Communication Microphone icon (must appear by your name in order to speak) Talk Button (must be held down to talk) Locks the talk button -Note: A leader must give you a microphone. If you do not have one and you need to talk, raise your hand. -When the talk button is pressed down, it turns yellow (as does the microphone by your name). -To reduce background noise, it is not recommended for participants to lock the talk button during the whole meeting. If necessary, you could use the lock button while you speak and then unlock it once you are finished.

11 Nonverbal Communication
Raise Your Hand Say Yes Say No -Note: If two or more participants have their hands raised, a number will appear next to each hand to indicate the order in which hands were raised. -Note: When appropriate, it is typically easier for a leader to receive a nonverbal yes/no response rather than a verbal response (this is especially true if the meeting is large and the leader asks a yes/no question to all participants)

-Step Out is used if you must temporarily leave a meeting

Text Chat Similar to instant messaging Type messages to meeting participants To watch a Text Chat tutorial video, click here -The Text Chat may be useful if you are having audio trouble. -Note: As a participant, you cannot send a private message to another participant.

14 App Share A leader/participant shares an application
A leader/participant can control an application shared by someone else A green arrow over the microphone indicates app share privileges -Note: A leader must invite a participant to share or control an application.

15 Use markup tools to draw, write text, etc.
White Board Use markup tools to draw, write text, etc. -Note: When a participant is given a microphone, he/she is also given markup tools.

16 Markup Tools (From Left To Right)
Saves white board to agenda Selection Tool Laser Pointer (or an arrow with your display name) Star (or a check, X, or laugh)

17 Highlighter Draw Line (or arrow) Filled Rectangle (can also be a filled oval or an empty rectangle/oval)

18 Text Tool Line Color (many colors to choose from) Fill Color Line Width

19 Select Font Drag Eraser Clear
