1 Pronouns

2 What are pronouns? Pronouns are words that take the place of (replace) nouns (and we know a noun is a person, place, thing, or idea). Erie (noun-place) There/Here (pronoun to replace the noun Erie)

3 Replacing nouns with pronouns
Ms. A (noun—person) She/Her (pronouns to replace Ms. A) Mr. Fries (noun—person) He/Him (pronouns to replace Mr. Fries) Friendship is a good thing, it makes us happy. Friendship is the noun, it is the pronoun that replaces the noun friendship.

4 Reflexive Pronouns When you add self or selves to a pronoun, it becomes a reflexive/intensive pronoun. Himself Herself Itself Themselves Ourselves

5 Using Reflexive Pronouns
I hurt myself when I tried to do a hand stand. He got himself out of bed when the alarm rang. She made herself some dinner. The car seemed to drive itself into that tree! Michael bought himself a new pair of shoes. They cooked themselves some dinner.

6 Intensive Pronouns We can use reflexive pronouns (the ones with the self/selves) to intensify (make stand out) a pronoun. They make the sentence more intense for the reader/listener. You like the color blue; but, I myself like orange. Lebron James himself came to our school as a guest speaker.
