3 Habitat An environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow, and reproduce Example: forest habitat, ocean habitat, prairies,

4 Biotic Factor Living or once living
Examples: Plants, worms, bacteria, animal scat, decomposing plant matter, owl pellets

5 Not-living factors in a habitat
Abiotic Factor Not-living factors in a habitat Examples: Sunlight, soil, temperature, oxygen, and water

6 Species A group of organisms that mate with each other and produce offspring Examples: white-tailed deer

7 All the members of one species living in the same area.
Population All the members of one species living in the same area. Example: white-tailed deer living in Frosty Hollow.

8 Community All the different populations living together in an area
Example: white-tailed deer, bears, fish, and the rabbits living in Frosty Hollow.

9 Ecosystem Living and nonliving parts of the environment living in the same area interacting. Examples: forests, prairies, ocean, deserts, ponds, puddle, crack in the sidewalk

10 Ecology Study of how organisms interact with each other and their non-living environment.
