2 Old Kingdom Definition: A period in Egyptian history that lasted from 2700 to 2200 BC. Sentence: By the end of the Old Kingdom, Egypt had about 2 million people.

3 Nobles Definition: People from a rich family.
Sentence: Many of these priests and officials were nobles, or people from rich and powerful families.

4 Afterlife Definition: The life after death.
Sentence: The Egyptians believed that the afterlife was a happy place.

5 Mummies Definition: Specially treated bodies wrapped in some cloth.
Sentence: The body was preserved as a mummy and kept in a case called a sarcophagus.

6 Elite Definition: People of wealth and power.
Sentence: Only royalty and other members of Egypt’s elite, or people of wealth and power, could afford to have mummies made.

7 Pyramids Definition: a huge, tomb with four triangular sides that meet at the tip Sentence: Many of these huge pyramids are still standing.

8 Engineering Definition: scientific knowledge for practical purposes.
Sentence: Like all pyramids, it is an amazing reminder of Egyptians engineering, the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes.
