2 Ice Breaker! “Producer for the day”
We’re going to give you all a taste of what a news producer does everyday in the newsroom Break into your “segment” groups and get started on building your part of the show. When you’re all done we will put the entire show together (segment by segment) and discuss!

3 Kortni Alston Doctoral Student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Florida; she is also a member of NABJ. Kortni received her B.A in Mass Communications from Delaware State University and her Masters of Business Administration at Morgan State University. Previously, she served as the Director of External Affairs at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Kortni began her journalism career as a Radio Personality and Entertainment Reporter at WAFL-FM in Delaware. Her commercial television experience began in Midland, Texas as a General Assignment Reporter for NBC affiliate, Many of her stories gained national news coverage including the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.

6 A-PLUS Overview: A-PLUS is a free college and career readiness program for students in grades 8 through 12. These ADVANCED PRE- COLLEGIATE LEADERSHIP SEMINARS prepare students to succeed in post-secondary education and the workforce by giving them exposure, experience and tools to be used in and after high school. Topic: Essay Workshop We will break the kids into 5 groups and work with them on writing college essays. When: Saturday, November 16, 2013 Where: Williston High School Please see an e-board member to sign-up if you’re interested.

7 Treasurer’s Report Concessions
People need to return shirts the Monday after a game to the knight division. We need to get people signed up for the last few games (Nov. 23, 30**) Our Treasurer has club polo shirts for those who ordered them. We are currently taking orders for club “meme” shirts. The deadline for dues has been extended until further notice, please see the Treasurer to pay your dues and for information for the cutoff date. If you’re a graduating senior and have met your member requirements, please see the Treasurer to order your graduation cords.

8 Upcoming Events Next General Body Meeting
November 20, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in Weimer 3032 Upcoming Opportunity deadlines: Gainesville HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) is a local organization looking for a PR intern. They can start this semester. If interested, please see Nickelle after the meeting or her at Knight Division is hosting a Fox News Recruiter visit on November 18, 2013 where they will be hosting interviews. Fox News has many opportunities for students in communications (Journalism, Social Media, PR, Advertising and Telecommunications). They will interview all levels of students from Freshmen through graduate school. Please submit you resumes to Dori Faust before and up to Thursday, November 14th.  NABJ FAMU Short Course (March 6-8, 2014) Application Deadline: Monday November 25, 2013 (Midnight EST). The NABJ Multimedia Short Course at Florida A&M University is a three-day intensive journalism workshop which provides hands-on experience and practical guidance of what it takes to be successful multimedia journalists. Juniors and Seniors only! NABJ N. Carolina A&T State University Short Course (March 19-22, 2014) Application Deadline: December 15, The NABJ Multimedia Short Course at North Carolina A&T State University is a four-day intensive journalism workshop which provides hands-on experience and practical guidance of what it takes to be successful multimedia journalists.
