Dec. 2, 1956: Attacked again by boat. Got separated and killed in the mountains
Mar. 13, 1957: Suicide attack on Batista failed
At this point…Fidel = freedom fighter to the US. Rebel to Batista’s regime

9. The Turning point
US withdraws support. US embargo imposed, and diplomat withdrawn due to Batista’s violation of “freedom” through his dictatorship
Rebel forces beat Cuban army and got a week-long ceasefire

Rebel force not completely coordinated. There was more than Castro’s forces.

B-26s disguised to look like planes from the Cuban government and flew in to attack. FAILURE.
Deception flight and “defected”
US government blamed it on the defectors
Apr. 17: Main attacks. FAILURE.

14. Aftermath Embarassing for the US Made Castro even more popular in Cuba

Castro flat-out can’t trust the US anymore. This turns Castro the USSR.
