1 Based on an integral vision of the human person
Integral formation Based on an integral vision of the human person Cf. Ken Wilber, The integral vision

2 How can we make sense of our own Life and Awareness

3 A comprehensive map will help to explore the depths of my mystery

4 In our global and intercultural village
We have access to the sum total of knowledge, wisdom and reflections of all major civilizations Over last several decades extensive search for a comprehensive map of human potentials Different maps available today to probe the human mystery

5

6

7 We know quite a lot about humans:
Human physiology His Psychological world His social dynamics His spiritual yearnings

8 An integral map of the human potentials is a must for a holistic formation.
If you fly over rocky mountains, the more accurate map you have, the less likely you will crash

9 An integral approach helps you to see yourself and the world around you in more comprehensive and effective ways A map is only a map.. It is not the territory. The better the map, the less risky is the trip.

10 Humans are made for freedom to transcend in love..

11 What are the essential aspects of your own awareness?
Right now What are the essential aspects of your own awareness? We take a guided tour

12 The various elements of the integral map are available in your own awareness.
What is required is to observe some of these features arising in your own awareness right now…

13 The elements of an integral map
Some refer to subjective realities in us Some to objective realities out in the world Others to collective realities shared with others

14 The 5 elements of an integral map are states, stages, lines, Types and quadrants

15 States of Consciousness

16 Major States of consciousness
Waking Dreaming Deep sleep

17 We do experience all sorts of different states of consciousness
Meditative states through Yoga, contemplative prayer, meditation etc. Altered states of consciousness (eg. Drug induced) Verieties of peak experiences triggered by intense experiences like walking in nature, listening to music, certain sights, prayermoments etc.

18 The states of consciousness
The 3 natural states of consciousness-waking, dreaming and deep sleep- contain a treasure trove of spiritual wisdom and awakening…. If we know how to use them correctly. Spiritual sages do explore the potential of all these states of consciousness

19 If only we could tap into them…!
In everyday life…. We have various “aha!” experiences of creative insight. We have expereinces of various states of consciousness that provide motivation, meaning and drives in oursleves and others. If only we could tap into them…!

20 Other states of consciousness
Preconcious, Concious, Unconcious Preconcious: Latent parts of the brain that are readily available to the conscious mind, although not currently in use. Conscious: The part of the mind which is aware. unconscious refers to that part of mental functioning of which subjects are unaware, but excerts influence on behaviour

21 Stages/ levels of Development

22 Stages/Levels of development
Stages are progressive and permanent milestones along the evolutionary path of our own unflolding. Stages in different lines of growth suggest those fundamental rungs in the unfolding of our higher, deeper, wider potentialities. Stages/Levels of development

23 States of consciousness come and go…
Even peak expereinces or altered states stay a bit and then pass… They are temporary. But stages of consciousness are permanent. Each advanced stage is an endring aquisition. Once ayou stably reach a stage of growth, you can access the capacities of that stage- such as greater conciousness, love, morals, intelligence and awareness. Passing states have become permanent traits

24 How many stages of development are there?
Various stage conceptions are available. Different ways to slice and dice development. In chakra system 7 major stages of consciousness Different systems suggest 5 to 12 stages of development. They are all valid ways to look at our growth process

25 Some examples

26

27 Ego centric, Ethnocentric, world centric
1. egocetric preconventional stage. Awareness is largly self-absorbed. 2. With socializing the awareness and attention is centred on one’s group. Conventional stage 3. one’s identity expands to include care and concern for all peoples. World-centric.

28 Stage 1: “body” stage dominated by gross physical reality
Stage 1: “body” stage dominated by gross physical reality. More identified with the separate bodily organism and its survival drives. “me” stage Stage 2. “mind” stage. Identity expands from isolated gross body and starts to share relationships with many others based on shared values, mutual interests etc. identity expands from “me” to “us” ethno- centric. Stage 3. “spiritual” stage. identity expands from “us” to “all of us”. From diverisity of humans and cultures, I begin to see similarities and shared commonalities. World centric.

29 Lines of Development

30 Lines of Development I am good at something, no-so-good at others
We have different lines of development. Some are good at logical thinking, others in emotional, yet others in moral or spiritual. Howard Gardness: multiple intelligence. Variety of inteligences: Cognitive, emotional, musical, moral, aesthetic, kinesthetic etc., They unfold in progressive stages. From ego centric, ethnocentric to world-centric.

31

32 Lines of Development We need to be aware of our strengths (intelligences where we excell) and our weknessees (where we do poorly or psychopathologically) Five essential elements: Cognitive, inter-personal, moral, emotional and aesthetic Each of the multiple intelligence can grow through the 3 major stages- egocentric, ethnocentric and worldcentric.

33 For example take emotional intelligence:
Stage 1: emotions centering on me especailly emotions and drives of hunger, survival and self-protection. Stage 2: begins to develop emotional commitments and attachments to loved ones, members of the family, close friends, tribe or nation. Stage 3: develops capacity for care and compassion beyond one’s own tribe or nation to include all humans and even other beings in a world centric care and compassion.

34 Before a permanent attainment in a stage, any of these qualities will be merely passing states. You may have a glimpse into your own higher potentialities through momentary peak experiences. With practice you can convert those states into stages, or permanent traits in the territory of you.

35 Your different growth levels
Check your potentials A psycho graph A psychograph helps you to take stock of your strengths and weaknesses. You can also work towards more even development. Thus you can be integrally informed about yourself. You can reach higher stages only by actual growth and practice. Eg. A concert pianist in music has. higher stage of musical ability

36 Growing process With repeated practice of contacting higher states, your own stages of development will tend to unfold in a much faster and easier way. Plunging into higher states of consciousness such as meditative states and helping to disidentify with lower stages, whereby we can remain stably at higher levels of awareness. A passing state then becomes a permanent trait.
