Huck Finn Exit Slip A coming of age story is a person’s transition from childhood to adulthood. A coming-of-age story in literature or film is memorable because the character undergoes adventures and/or inner turmoil in his/her growth and development as a human being. Some characters come to grips with the reality of cruelty in the world--with war, violence, death, racism, and hatred--while others deal with family, friends, or community issues. Construct an argument to explain how this story is an example of a coming of age tale for the character Huckleberry Finn. Think about how he changes over the course of the film. Write your response in an organized manner. How to organize your argument: State your argument in your first sentence. This is your thesis. Give a specific example of what Huck was like at the beginning of the film and explain what this shows about him. Then give a few specific examples from the film where he starts to change. Explain how each example shows the internal struggle Huck deals with. Lastly, describe ultimately how Huck has grown up by the end of the film. Explain what this shows about him. How has be become an “adult”? Restate your thesis as your concluding sentence.
