2 Thesis Statement  Jim and Huckleberry Finn find themselves on the run from the pain of their past, only to find new challenges along the way.

3 The Mississippi River (intro)  The Mississippi River is a big theme in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as it symbolizes freedom. This is where most of the book is taken place. As Jim and Huck escape they do not have to worry about being civilized. Jim does not have to be a slave and Huck does not have to worry about his father coming after him. Although as these worries are away; there are still things to worry about.

4 Character Background: Huckleberry Finn (Huck)  Huck decided to run away from his father, known as pap, who was a drunk and beat Huck for unnecessary things. He was even beat for going to school and getting an education. His father had taken him away to a cabin where he believed nobody would look for them. Huck decided to fake a murder so that he could run away where nobody would look for him.

5 Character background: Jim  Jim was a slave for the widow. He decided to runaway, you could almost consider him as Huck’s runaway partner. They found a raft one day after a bad storm and this is what they used to go down the Mississippi River.
