6 Vision statement Maldives Meteorological Service vision is to provide accurate, timely and reliable meteorological information to minimize the impact on life and property while supporting sustainable socio-economic development of the Maldives.

7 Timely dissemination of alerts and advisories on all natural disasters.
Expansion and maintenance of weather observation net-work in accordance with international standards and best practices with well trained professionals. Enable easy access of high quality historical meteorological data to the user community for Sustainable National Socio-Economic Development. Develop meteorological services and capacity building for the national requirement, and contribute to regional and international community.

8 Mandate 1. Plan, administer and develop activities related to meteorology in the Maldives. 2. Maintaining the data on climate required for economically and socially sustainable development, maintaining such a knowledgebase, and disseminating this information to those who require it. 3. Collating, maintaining and disseminating scientific information on meteorology. 4. Research and provide access to warnings on the weather and natural hazards such as tsunamis. 5. Predict the damage caused by natural hazards or other hazards that have occurred or may occur, collecting and disseminate data on such events, and taking precautionary steps in conjunction with relevant organizations. 6. Record and maintain seismological data for the Maldives.
