4 General Information The anticipated size of funding for projects will be from £50,000 up to £500,000 for the right project. For Round 1 they are looking to work with organisations who have a proven track record of working with families They want to invest in and work with both sporting and non-sporting organisations who understand children and families Potential examples include housing associations, family-focused charities, parent support organisations and outdoor activity providers. Successful applicants will encourage families to plan and take decisions together, with children involved in shaping how they and their families are active There will be a combination of solicited and open applications Organisations must be able to meet the new SE code for sports governance There must be some level of in-kind or cash partnership contribution Queries Full details can be found here

5 Challenges SE want to address
Attention on ability inhibits enjoyment 2. Hassle, effort and stress around taking part in activities for parents and children 3. Parents lack confidence in their own skills and ability and worry about passing on their own anxieties. 4. Parents see their role as helpers rather than role models 5. Traditional sports environments can be intimidating for families 6. Limited easy opportunities to Get Out as a Family and risks associated with Free Play & Getting Around 7. Activity levels of children lack salience and families assume they’re active enough already 8. Prevailing gender stereotypes limit the range of activities children

6 Purpose This fund is looking to make a difference to families with children aged 5-15, with a focus on low income families and families living in areas of high deprivation • To ensure experiences are fun, enjoyable and/or deliver value to children and their wider family. • To give families inspiration and confidence to take part together and enable quality family time.

7 Objectives • Support families to be active together • Encourage and enable positive experiences • Target families in lower socio-economic groups • Achieve 30 minutes more activity per day outside of school • Create a behaviour change

8 KPIs: KPI 2 – Decrease in % of people physically inactive
KPI 4 – Increase in % of children achieving physical literacy KPI 6 – Increase in % of children with positive attitude towards sport and physical activity ‘Active Lives’ will be used to measure all of the above

9 Focus #1 • Children aged should be targeted, but 5 – 10 year olds are the priority • In Year 1 there is an emphasis on low income families and families living in areas of high deprivation • Families where children are not active for at least minutes each day • Promoting activity taking place during the week (as most currently happens at weekend) • They are looking at interventions that get families active as a unit, not parents doing something whilst child is at a club • Interventions can provide families activities to take part in or initiatives that support families to take part on their own

10 Focus #2 • Families taking part in sport and physical activity together not children’s skills session alongside parents/grandparents activity sessions • Projects could focus on: Free Play; kids in control, own rules, natural, easy, just fun Getting out as a family; own pace, relax, life skills, cherished time, memories, parental attention, letting off steam, discover, explore Getting around; school run, pressure from school, freedom, parents’ goals

11 New Timeline (changed due to the General Election)
• July 6th- investment guide released Expression of Interest (EOI) opened • August 31st at 3pm- EOI submission deadline SE will consider applications based on: Audience, Need, Outcomes, Track Record and Sustainability • October selected organisations invited to stage 2 • November SE work with stage 2 applicants to develop application • December 2017/January decisions made
