4 Physical Education Course Description
The ultimate purpose of the SPHS Physical Education Program is to help students gain the skills and knowledge to be physically active for a lifetime. The Physical Education Department at San Pedro High School is committed to providing each student: A developmentally and instructionally appropriate physical education experience. Instruction in Physical Education incorporating best practices derived from both research and experience for teaching in ways that facilitate success for all students. Instructional programs aimed at student learning skills and developing an understanding of the benefits and importance of physical activity. Physical Education that integrates the emotional, social, and intellectual components that develop the whole student.

5 Grading Criteria Grading
All assignments, quizzes, projects, class work, tests, class participation, homework, etc. will be graded on a point system using the following grading scale: A = 90 – 100% B = 80 – 89% C = 70 – 79% A large amount of our work is done in class, class attendance D = 60 – 69% is essential for your child’s success to make the grade. F = 59% and below Grade reports are sent home in-between report card

6 Classroom Expectations
DRESS OUT POLICY All students are required to dress out everyday (even on rainy, super cold or extremely hot days) in the required school issued PE uniform with socks and athletic shoes. Students may only wear plain black or gray sweatshirts (no writing or other logos and no pockets or hoods) or sweatpants over their PE uniform on cold days. ****Simply dressing out does not secure a passing grade**** MEDICAL EXCUSES Students with medical excuses must take their notes to the school nurse prior to physical education class for verification. The medical excuse should state the nature of the injury, limitations, and length of time to be excused. Students are still expected to dress for class.

7 Attendance Policy & Class Partication
Classroom participation grades are given on a daily basis & will be adversely affected by absences. Make up assignments for excused absences will be given upon request.
