2 The purpose of grading is to measure and communicate student achievement to students, teachers, parents, and community members. Grades also: • Monitor student progress against established standards • Guide teacher instruction • Identify students for available educational opportunities • Provide information that students can use for self-evaluation and growth

3 Today’s Expectations Develop Department Specific Grading polices.
Come to a consensus over the next 45 minutes regarding changes to the existing TAPCO grading policy.

4 GRADING POLICY [1] Classroom Grading Policy for the end of this marking period is: All report card grades must be based on the school wide grading policy: Modifications to this policy beyond ±5% in any category must be approved by the principal. 40% Tests/quizzes/other formal assessments 10% Homework 50% Projects/work folders/daily class work present for the assignment 55 D: C: B: A: The Report Card Grading Policy for final grades is: Z Not present ever (Long term absence) 55-85 (in 5 point increments , 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 100 Please encourage your children to submit all work products, essays, assignments and be sure they make up any exams they have missed before the end of any marking period. No Credit (“NC”) will not be utilized. Students who have been ill or have other documented emergency contingencies will be accommodated.

5 What is consensus? Consensus is not Unanimity.
Consensus is a process for deciding what is best for a group. Consensus is Not Just a Process, but a Valuable Goal. Consensus is Not Conflict - Free or Painless. When there's a consensus, everyone agrees on something.

The roles of Formative and Summative Assessments Homework, its numeric value and but why homework is important Department view of late work and “extra credit” The responsibilities of the teacher regarding returning work, entering grades and how students and parents should track progress.
