4 Whole Child Initiative: 2015/2016 Focus Personalized Learning
Phase 1: Move HTH programing to a Personalized Learning Center Student Interviews 80% Teacher Relationships Strong 10% felt there was Rigorous instruction 5% felt learning was Relevant to the Real World/Career/College If we increase Rigor, Relationships and Relevance our goal is to increase graduation rate (currently 17%) and decrease truancy. Trend data is very limited due to HTH small size but using the Homeroom data we will be able to keep more longitudal data on students

6-12 grade Research, train, and promote best programing 3% of district K-12 are enrolled with other districts virtual programs

6 2016-2017 Phase 3: Parent Partnerships with Homeschool community
100% of parents surveyed are doing homeschooling for safety. 3% of district K-12 have registered as home schoolers Build a relationship with these parents so we can build a program to support their needs…planning group; informational Establish a resource library for parents /community partnerships

Working Mission Statement: Quincy’s personalized learning prepares students for the next step in their education, career and life. How: flexible education opportunities that range from remediation to enrichment, utilizing multi-tier systems of support and partnerships

8 There will be three basic options for students during 2016-2017 at the
Personalized Learning Center/HTH; these will be built upon as the center grows. Day School: • Flexible scheduling • Teacher taught classes ; needs basis • On-Line/contract based classes in some subject areas • Internships and field based studies (Environmental Leadership) • Advisory and Mentorships • AVID • Intervention programs (Bridges, Read 180, credit retrieval, etc.) • Gear Up opportunities

10 John is an junior and he is credit deficient in English
John is an junior and he is credit deficient in English. He struggles with his reading skills. Current Schedule Personalized Learning Program Read 180 remedial reading program Freshmen English Sophomore English Junior English John works with Mentor to fill out a personalized learning plan John takes on-line freshmen English John does an 0 hour remedial reading program John does a work study program John works with a teacher one-one afterschool one day a week to build his fluency skills

11 Pete has a medical condition that is going to take him out of the school environment for at least one year. Current Program Personalized Learning Plan 504 Plan developed however the year he is gone credits will only be achieved through packet work At HTH No program would be available at this time A 504 plan is developed with Pete’s parents In person, by phone or using skype, Pete communicates with the counselor to fill out a personalized learning plan. Pete remotely join the class using technology. Pete communicates on a weekly basis Pete works from on-line to get his classwork done. Pete has the opportunity for the teacher or counselor with him monthly to review his progress and make sure his questions are answered.

12 Larisa is an 8th grader who has trouble sitting in class but learns best when she is doing something. Current Schedule Personalized Learning Program Larisa will go to the Quincy High School for regular classes; may at some point because of credit deficit be transferred to HTH for classes being behind. Larisa fills out a personalized learning plan with her mentor. Larisa is placed in the field study program. All of her classes focus on her field study…including her math, English, social studies and science credits…Clarissa knows what common core standards she is mastering. Larisa also takes an advisory class that provides her with leadership skills necessary to be successful in the job field or college. Larisa has some trouble in reading so she takes a 0 hour remediation class to build her reading skills.

13 Jose has just turned 18 and it is necessary for him to provide full time income for his family, however he has been offered a job during the day hours. Current Schedule New Personalized Learning Plan Jose wants to get his diploma so he doesn’t take the job, but continues to work part time and helps his family as much as he can. Jose completes a personalized learning plan with his mentor Jose attends classes from 5-7 two nights a week. Jose contracts with his teachers to receive the necessary credits from two areas of study he excels in and can complete this. Jose attends the on-line lab one night a week for an additional on-line class. Jose and the counselor meet with his employer to see if there is an apprenticeship program he could be involved in or if there is a job mentor that could work with him to receive elective credit on a personalized project related to his job performance.

Data FROM Visitations: data As per OSPI Report Card These are not success rates but graduation rates; Westside High school felt they had better success than what this showed; we would want to keep more high school and beyond data for the actual success rate of the personalized learning program.
