Proposal to introduce a new Railway Cup competition
The original Railway League was founded in 1912 and continued until 2010 when it was replaced as the Veterans League (over age 35).
The GFA would like to propose in this the 100th anniversary season that a new Railway cup competition be inaugurated for as an open competition for affiliated teams that fulfill the entry criteria.

The proposed competition format:
The GFA is of the view that the current league structure has an imbalance in playing opportunities at various levels the more significant being the provision of playing opportunities for those adults who are under age 35 and who are not, for whatever reason, playing Jackson League football.
It is proposed that the new competition be open to any affiliated team comprising players over 18 years of age.
The competition would be designated as Sunday type football.

The competition would be played in two phases, the first phase comprising a league format in which each team will play each other twice the second phase being a straight knockout competition to arrive at the two teams that will contest the grand final. The number of teams involved in the knockout phase would depend on the number of teams participating in the league phase.
The cost of entry to the competition would be:
Existing affiliated club competition entry fee £ per player registration fee £25.00
New affiliated club affiliation fee £75.00
competition entry fee £30.00
per player registration fee £25.00

The club affiliation fee includes the mandatory Public Liability insurance, possible access to affiliated club playing facilities and possible use of Victoria Avenue.
The player registration fee includes the mandatory Personal Accident insurance.
Whilst a player may participate in open age football from age 16 the GFA considers there is sufficient appropriate football opportunities for those under age 18.
Classification as Sunday type football would ensure that there is no disciplinary implications with the those players already participating in Saturday type football, however it must be emphasised that this is not a competition for those players regularly participating in the Priaulx and Jackson leagues.
