1 China’s Natural Resources
By Atsuro Zhai & Alex Gutierrez

2 Natural Resources they provide
China is one of the leading providers of antimony, zinc and tungsten. China are also significant providers of coal, iron ore, petroleum, aluminium, manganese, natural gas, mercury, tin, lead and more recently, uranium. The country has approximately 12% of the world's mineral resources, with only the United States and Russia possessing larger proportions. Approximately 15% of China’s land is arable land (crops can be grown on this land) – 1.4million square kilometres

3 Water Resources W resources: China's average total rainfall in a year amounts to 6 trillion cubic meters; the total runoff of its rivers is 2.7 trillion cubic meters; and its total water resources reach 2.8 trillion cubic meters Hydropower resources provided by the country's rivers amount to 676 million kw, of Which 378 million kw can be exploited for power generation, ranking first in the world. However the majority of the hydropower is concentrated in South West China.

4 More on water In 2006, nearly half of China’s major cities did not meet state drinking-water quality standards (OECD 2007), and a third of surface-water samples taken were considered severely polluted (Xinhua 2007f). Chinese statistics estimate that 40% of the water in the country’s surface waters was fit only for industrial or agricultural into China’s rivers.

5 Land In order to compensate from the mass urban sprawl from urban expansion, a policy of "adding cultivated land first and then occupying” was implemented for urban construction. A total of 310,800 hectares of cultivated land were added through land consolidation, reclamation and development. 32,500 hectares were added by reclamation of abandoned land, and 213,900 hectares were added by land development. The area of added cultivated land was 31,300 hectares more than that of the cultivated land used for construction and destroyed by natural hazards. The Arable land (hpp) in China was 0.08 in 2009, according to the World Bank report, published in 2010. However due to China’s colossal population of 1.3 billion, the major natural resources such as land, water and fuel per capita is not as strong as several other nations.
