Motion approved during Region 9 April 2011 Meeting
To establish a working group that will scope out the role of an Advisory Board on Accreditation on Region 9. Identification of the benefits of establishing an Accrediting Advisory Board in Region 9. Identification of the role the Board would play. How the Board would link with existing accreditation bodies in Region 9. What functions the Board will perform. To make possible recommendations on structure of the Board.

Role the Advisory Board
The main role of this Board is to advise and support the continuous improvement efforts of the existing accrediting bodies in Region 9 as part of EAB CGAA activities. This role will be played by establishing a close relationship with the accrediting bodies of the region through IEEE local sections and personal contacts of the Board members.

Tasks of the Advisory Board (I)
Sponsor and/or facilitate region-wide dialog and cooperative activities on accreditation, to include: Organizing efforts to create mutual recognition agreements among engineering accrediting organizations in R9. Promote the continuous improvement of the accrediting bodies in the region through the exchange of ideas and good practices in accreditation activities. Provide support, as needed, to existing accrediting agencies in R9 Provide support for the creation of a national accrediting agency of engineering programs to countries in R9 which do not have one in place, working closely with the local IEEE Section.

Tasks of the Advisory Board (II)
Helping to find program evaluators from outside one nation when conflict of interest requirements cannot be resolved within a country or when it is important to include evaluators from other nations. Evaluator training through the consolidated accrediting bodies in the Region.

Structure of the Board Report to EAB and R9
Chair appointed jointly by EAB and R9 ( 2-year term ) – Teófilo Ramos Members ( 6, 3 appointed by EAB and 3 appointed by R9, 2-year term, staggered for continuity ) Budget ( jointly supported by EAB and R9 )

Motion to the EAB To approve in principle the formation of the Region 9 Accreditation Advisory Board which will report to EAB and R9 Board of Directors. A formal motion will be presented to EAB in the February Meeting.
