2 Statistics 1 in 4 young people have a mental health issue which requires extra support In East Sussex there is a 3% increase year on year in new referrals Across the County we have an approx 7% DNA rate for new assessments.

3 About the Service Sussex Partnership Foundation trust provides CAMHS services for East and West Sussex, Kent, Brighton & Hove and Hampshire. In East Sussex there are 3 teams-Lewes, Uckfield & The Havens, Eastbourne & Hailsham and Hastings & Rother.

4 Lewes, Uckfield & The Havens
Main office base for Lewes and Peaceheaven is Orchard house, Lewes Main office base for Uckfield is Uckfield Hospital

5 Eastbourne & Hailsham Main office base is Highmore, Hailsham All referrals for the West of the County are triaged at this base

6 Hastings & Rother Main base is St. Annes’, The Ridge, St. Leonards – All referrals for Hastings & Rother are triaged at this base.

7 Referrals to CAMHS Who can refer?
We accept referrals from any professional including 3rd sector organisations. We also accept self referrals For school/college based issues it is preferable if the school/college make the referral We do not prioritise GP referrals Harming acts as a safety valve. 8 Who Is In The Team? Psychiatry Psychology Nurse specialists
Psychotherapists Mental Health Practitioners Primary Mental Health Workers

9 Tier System Tier 1 – universal services Tier 2 –specialist but usually uni-professional. PMHWs sit in Tier 2 Tier 3 – specialist multi-professional CAMHS Tier 4 – specialist in-patient and Urgent help Services

10 What happens when a new referral is made?
Referrals are triaged daily They may be accepted or redirected. We are always happy to discuss redirected referrals with the referrer or young person/carers Research tells us that nationally the norm is that 33% of referrals are redirected

11 Accepted Referrals Once a referral is accepted an initial appointment is arranged. This is called a Choice appointment and is the start of the assessment process. Our standard is to offer this within 4 weeks of referral but if this is not possible then a telephone consultation will take place. The assessment can take place over 1-6 sessions.

12 After Assessment Once the assessment is completed:
The young person may be referred internally for therapeutic support or a specific assessment eg ADHD/ASC The case may be closed with no further action The case may be redirected to a more appropriate service 33% of cases initially referred will need further support

13 Service Provision We can provide: Assessment Diagnosis
Therapy including systemic family therapy and group work Consultation Training Prescribing

14 Crisis Intervention Some young people present in a crisis. This is typically at A & E following an overdose or other serious form of self harm but may be in other circumstances. We have a new A & E Liaison service. This consists of 2 full time clinicians whose role is to assess these young people in A & E or on the paediatric ward and offer an initial follow up We also have a duty officer on call every day M-F, 9-5 Outside of these hours there is an urgent help service which provides cover from pm weekdays and 10-6 weekends and bank holidays. There is also an on-call psychiatrist available at all other times for telephone consultation and advise

16 Exciting New projects PMHW service extended and to work with Early Help Key Worker Service and also to liaise with GPs Prodigy-which provides an outreach service for young people not engaged in anything Irock-in Hastings- a new youth drop in service for year olds. CAMHS are having input A & E Liaison Discovery College
