Opposed to a national bank and a protective tariff

Believed a wealthy and educated elite should run the government
Favored a strong central government
Emphasized the importance of manufacturing, shipping and trade as the backbone of the economy
Favored a loose interpretation of the Constitution
Favored a national bank and a protective tariff
