6. KEY 2: TAKE THE ACT/SAT
Register on-line ~ Avon High School Code:
Scores must be sent to colleges directly from the testing agency
There is a fee for score reports requested after the testing date
You can choose which scores ACT or the College Board releases
If you are an athlete, include the NCAA Clearinghouse as one of the three that receive your score report

9. KEY 3: SUBMIT APPLICATIONS
Keep application deadlines in mind - Student Services needs 2 weeks to process college or scholarship applications
Students must request transcripts through Naviance & their counselor once the request has been made
Parent/guardian permission is required for students under the age of 18
Students applying through the Common Application must “Match” their Common App Account with Naviance to be able to request transcripts through Naviance

Available August 1st for Fall 2017 applicants
Students must “match” Common App account with Naviance account

11. Letters of Recommendation
Students should ask teachers that know them well and who can provide positive comments on work and potential
Students should complete the senior bio survey on Naviance; this info will be accessible by staff and administration
Teachers and counselors must be given adequate time to prepare a good letter-at least 2 weeks
Students should request letters at the end of the junior year
Letters of recommendation should only be sent to schools that request them

12. The College Essay
An opportunity for the student to show originality and to highlight unique qualities
If asked to answer a specific question, make sure to do so
Seek feedback-let someone else look at this! Take advantage of class assignments; sometimes teachers will accept the college essay as a piece of writing. Translation: free critique from a writing expert!
