2 Quick Facts of Wrestling
Wrestling prides itself on the fact that virtually anyone can participate regardless of gender, size, weight, socioeconomic background, and even most disabilities. Women’s wrestling is one of the fastest growing scholastic sports with nearly 11,000 participants and state wrestling championships in HI, AK, WA, CA, TX, and TN. There are now 30 intercollegiate women’s teams in America. 9/NCAA, 18 NAIA, 3 NJCAA Helen Maroulis Adeline Grey 2016 Olympian Olympian

The cost of NCAA wrestling programs is among the lowest of all collegiate sports. A sample budget based on other “similar” NCAA DIII wrestling programs: a. Operating Budget (travel, equipment, recruiting, etc.) - $35,000/team b. Head Coaches Salary (can be combined with another on campus duty such as admissions, financial aid, etc.) - $40,000 range. c. Assistant Coaches Salary - $20,000 range d. Scholarships – NAIA has 8 scholarship maximum. Start Up Costs a. Uniforms & practice gear: $10,000

4 Ability to be Nationally Competitive
An intercollegiate women’s wrestling team would be very competitive nationally against the other 29 teams because it is so underserved at the college level in the east (11,000 scholastic wrestlers vs 30 intercollegiate teams). All women’s intercollegiate teams currently compete in the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA). The WCWA sponsors a regular season league along with a post season national championship. The NWCA also sponsors a national dual meet championship for 16 women’s intercollegiate teams each year. All teams in the WCWA compete in freestyle (international/Olympic style)
