4th Grade Reading 5th Grade Reading Weekly Concept: Leadership Essential Question: Why do people run for public office? This week our class will focus on the different reasons people run for public office. We will also be discussing the distinctions between state and local governments. Comprehension: point of view (on the back) You and your child will read about several different historical leaders. Then write a short paragraph about one of them. Weekly Concept: Better Together Essential Question: How do shared experiences help people adapt to change? This week our class will be focusing on how shared experiences can help people adapt to change. As an example, we will be taking a look at the Great Depression to learn about its causes and the effects it had on people. Comprehension: Compare and Contrast (on back) In this activity, you and your child make a list of the names of some characters from books, movies, TV shows, or games. Then you work together to write about how the characters are alike and different. 4th Grade Math 5th Grade Math Fourth grade started the Customary Measurement chapter last week. We will be learning to measure and convert customary units of length, capacity, weight, and time. We will also be learning to solve measurement problems. Word to Know: Convert: to change to different units. Find the number of seconds in one hour. 1 hour (h) = 60 minutes (min) 1 minute = 60 seconds (s) Friday we started the Multiply and Divide Fractions chapter. In this chapter we will learn how to estimate products and how to multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. In addition, we will learn how to draw a diagram to solve problems. Be on the look our for homework from time to time. Words to Know: Denominator: Tells how many units are in the whole. Numerator: Tells how many equal sized parts are grouped together.
