Network Platform Gig trail and job related s Mentoring scheme by more senior academics in population health The Society for Social Medicine has developed a number of mechanisms to support ECRs who face several challenges at the beginning of their career, by providing networking opportunities, special events, and other initiatives such as dedicated workshops, monthly s that contain details of relevant job and funding opportunities. Access to the Network Platform - it is an online network put together to connect SSM members working in similar research areas or with shared professional interests. The network can be particularly useful for ECRs wanting to make contact with other ECRs or senior researchers working in their field. Via the ECR gig trail , these contacts could provide the opportunity to travel to other institutes and give a talk on a topic of shared interest. Alternatively, ECRs may wish to use the gig trail to host a fellow ECR member at their institute. The platform can be accessed through the members area of the SSM website. The SSM is also taking steps to improve mentoring provision and has recently piloted a within-Society mentoring scheme (SSM link). ECRs were paired with a senior member of SSM to provide the necessary support, especially for ECRs based in institutions where mentoring schemes are absent. The pilot scheme has proved effective and it was well-received. Currently, plans are in progress to roll this out to a full scheme. So why not join us in this stronger community?
